ValhallaDSP has released ValhallaSupermassive 3.0, another big update for its massive free delay/reverb plugin featuring two new modes: Leo and Virgo.

As discussed several times, ValhallaDSP is not participating in the Black Friday Sale madness. The plugins that cost $50 each are always on sale, to be honest. Plus, there are constant updates to this. Yesterday, they released a 2.0 update for the ValhallaRoom

For Black Friday 2020, Sean Costello released ValhallaSupermassive, a massive delay/reverb plugin, as a free download. He has expanded this repeatedly over the last three years. For this year’s Black Friday madness, the published update 3.0 with two additional creative modes: Leo and Virgo.

ValhallaSupermassive has had a massive amount of algorithms so far. With 3.0, this huge amount grows once again by two more exciting modes.

Leo

The first new algorithm is Leo. It’s a new super-rich delay/reverb mode. ValhallaDSP promises it’s the most super massive-est of all the Supermassive modes. According to the developer, it has a very slow attack that is joined by a long to very long decay.

These are controlled by both density and feedback, and a high echo density with balanced modulation. Leo offers high and low EQ filters in the reverb network, allowing you to craft a wide range of reverb decays, including dark, shrill, bass heavy, whisper light, or just perfectly balanced.

Sean Costello says Leo is ideal for big synth sounds, and for realistic cathedral sounds and other longer reverbs.

Virgo

Then, you can explore Virgo, the smallest and sparsest mode in Supermassive. It has a fast attack, and basically sounds and behaves like a stereo delay until the Density control is turned up.

If you crank up the density settings, you can achieve a grainy delay that is enveloped with a reverb. Virgo is great for pointillistic echoes, spring-ish reverb sounds, and other sparse effects that create more space around your sounds, says ValhallaDSP. Moreover, it allows you to hear the space between the echoes.

The new update ships with plenty of ready-to-use presets for both Lego and Virgo modes.

First Impression

I haven’t tested either new mode yet. But I’m sure they’re as much fun as the others. Thank you Sean for this update. Another killer update for ValhallaSupermassive.

ValhallaSupermassive 3.0 is a free download for existing users. The plugin is a free download and runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
