Superbooth 2025: Ohm Force Bohm is a new stereo dual-voice kick Synthesizer voice for Eurorack with multiple synthesis engines plus two expanders.

Last year, after many years of silence, the French company Ohmforce surprisingly returned, not with a new plugin, but with hardware. With Ohmicide, the developers presented a Eurorack version of their popular distortion plugin with the same name.

They are showing more hardware this year at Superbooth 2025. Ohmforce has unveiled the Bohm, a new versatile stereo kick generator module.

Ohm Force Bohm

Bohm is a new stereo dual-voice kick synth voice/system for Eurorack. It consists of the Ohmforce Bohm primary kick voice module and two optional expanders: Bohm: Groove and Bohm:Performer.

The Bohm module (18HP) consists of a multi-engine and hosts a microSD card reader that reads so-called OIFF (Ohm Force Interchange File Format) files, each featuring a unique kick machine circuit or “model”.

The following models are available:

  • FM-2X, a two-operator FM kick model, whereby each operator is a wavetable oscillator;
  • HZ-1, a wavetable kick drum model with a unique transient Synthesizer
  • OLP-4, a four-operator FM kick model
  • PM-K1, a physical model of a kick drum
  • PX-3, a complex wavetable kick drum model with sampler intended for hard techno
  • SP-6, a wavetable kick drum model with digital waveforms and sampler
  • VX-T, a wavetable kick drum model with another unique transient synth
  • WT-4, a wavetable kick drum model with analogue waveforms and sampler
  • XT-88, a wavetable kick drum model with sampler, allows users to load their own wavetables and samples.

You can also use the microSD card slot to update the firmware. Alternatively, it hosts a USB micro-B (wait, what, no USB-C?) to update it. Of course, all these models can be tweaked in detail with various parameters, or you can create variations of existing settings.

Sound Design

The Ohm Force Bohm has plenty of controls and CV options: HIT CV triggers the main kick voice, LENGTH controls the kick length, and SUSTAIN controls the perceived volume of the kick. You can also achieve 808 and 909 style sounds with the engines.

Tweak the oscillator pitch curve counter-clockwise, and you will get results similar to 808, while fully clockwise will sound more like 909. TRS DECAY controls the transient decay of the kick, and TRS TONE controls the transient tone of the kick. Bohm has tons of kick shaping options.

Yes, it’s a Eurorack module, and it also has CV connections. Bohm has CVs for all parameters. Length, sustain, pitch, and color have associated attenuverters. The module also has various randomization options, allowing you to mix up the parameters on the fly.

Bohm:Groove & Bohm:Performer

You can even expand the sonic palette and feature set of the Ohm Force Bohm with two optional expanders.

Bohm:Groove (10HP) adds a secondary kick voice that clock divisions can trigger to build grooves around the main kick. You can program it with hands-on parameters: taps (sets the volume of each tap with dedicated controls over the four taps), volume, length of the tap, effect, and color (timbre).

Again, all parameters have associated CVs, while FX and COLOUR have associated attenuverters. The TAPS CV input allows for control of the three TAPS values in a single CV, while the TAPS CV output allows the envelope generated by the TAPS CV and buttons to be used.

Bohm:Performer (8HP) is a mixer for both kick voices and adds stereo processing for external audio, sidechain ducking, and love performance effects. The latter includes DJ-style HP (High-Pass)/LP (Low-Pass) filters, beat roll, and slip roll. All these

And all the parameters are tweakable on the frontpanel (Vol, Duck, FX…). Nice, the volume is a slider. We need more sliders in Eurorack.

On technical side, the modules run at 48kHz audio sample rate, 24-bit hardware audio converters, 32-bit floating point internal processing, true stereo audio, and with high-fidelity Texas Instruments Burr-Brown audio converters

First Impression

Bohm looks like a very powerful kick synth voice that offers tons of options. I think it’s one of the most comprehensive kick modules ever released in Eurorack. I’m curious to hear how it sounds; it already looks great on paper.

Ohm Force Bohm and the expanders will be available in June 2025 through Ohm Force’s growing global network of retailers via Alex4 Distribution. Bohm is 369€, Bohm:Groove 139€, and Bohm Performer 99€. You can check out the module this week at Superbooth 2025 at booth W255.
