Superbooth 2025: PPG 1002 Mk2 is an official reissue of Wolfgang Palm’s super rare analog Synthesizer from 1975 + get a NI Leap freebie at SB
At the beginning of February, it was announced that the PPG brand would be returning as a hardware manufacturer, with the support of legendary developer Wolfgang Palm. The W2.2×4 dual wavetable oscillator was also announced in February.
Berlin has another surprise. For Superbooth 2025, they announced the PPG 1002 Mk2, a reissue of Wolfgang Palm’s super rare analog Synthesizer. For those who can’t afford it and happen to be at the Superbooth, there is a gift.
PPG 1002 Mk2
1002 MK2 is a monophonic Synthesizer. The PPG 1002 Mk2 is an authentic hand-made reissue based on Wolfgang Palm’s original handwritten drawings. Unlike the original, which had a keyboard with a pitch bender, the reissue is a desktop unit.
It features two temperature-stabilized VCOs with pulse, square, saw, and triangle waveforms, transpose switches, and mixing options. Digitally controlled VCOs are not new to this synth; the original PPG from 1975 also had them.
Besides the square waveform, Oscillators 2 also features a new sub-oscillator for extra bottom end. You can also sync oscillator 2 with the first. There is also a noise generator for audio and modulation duties.
The PPG 1002 Mk2 reissue also includes a new switchable ring modulator that can be used instead of the noise generator. The oscillators then flow into a 24dB lowpass filter with resonance. At the end of the signal chain, there is also a voltage-controlled amplifier.
The modulation side is just as straightforward and classic as on the original hardware. It has a routable LFO with pulse and triangle waveforms and two slimmed-down envelopes with attack/decay and decay-only characteristics.
A highlight of the original and new 1002 Mk2 is how you can route the modulation. Each module has a hardware switch, allowing you to route modulation to different destinations, giving you almost modular-like routings.
Unlike the original, the PPG 1002 Mk2 features a simple MIDI and CV/gate interface with velocity on the front panel.
Liquid Sky D-vices PPG Leap Gift
Liquid Sky Artist Collective, behind the PPG project, has released a free Leap Instrument for Kontakt 8 Player to celebrate this new Synthesizer release.
It features 1002 soundscapes suitable for dark ambient, dark techno, Sci-Fi, mystery, and horror movies.
There is a catch: you can only get the serial number at the Superbooth at the Native Instruments booth.
First Impression
It’s great that this rare analog Synthesizer by Wolfgang Palm is returning to the market—a surprise for Superbooth 2025. The synth isn’t for the masses and is aimed only at people who want this particular Synthesizer in their studio. Now, they can get one with new components and a warranty.
PPG 1002 Mk2 will be available soon for 9999€. It is limited to 102 units and handmade in Portugal. The price includes shipping and a flight case, and part of the money goes into Liquid Sky Artist Collective’s reforestation project in Portugal, where they plant trees, pay forest workers, and more.

The price!!!! haha, I’m still cracked up 10 minutes later.
Let’s just remember the Behringer Poly D, an equally useable synth is €166.
You can argue about modulation etc etc till the cats come home, but they’re both capable of pretty much the same palette.
Nostalgia, it’s not what it used to be…but it’s still expensive.
Still cracked.
lolz
I don’t know where you bought your Poly D aka Para D, it’s 569€. I think you mean Model D 🙂
Yeah, that’s the one, I was still laughing while typing.
I know what you mean.
😅🤪
I’m done guys, you won, I go home.
Maybe the components are made of gold?
Handbuilt – but is it really the same? No keyboard like the original.
Ten grand – for a mono synth – not sure what to say. I’m sure someone with more money than sense will pick one up.
