Magerit Kairos, a multi-function module for your modular and DAW

Magerit Kairos is a new multi-function module offering clever tools for your modular system and your DAW alike.

Space is a constant challenge when working with a Eurorack system. No case has infinite rack space, so you must perfectly manage it. This is the primary reason why multi-function modules are so popular. For example, Pamela’s PRO Workout by Busy Circuit or the Expert Sleepers Disting or SuperDisting. They offer many functions in a small module.

Magerit from Spain, the developers of the multi-drum voice Metro and Laniakea wavetable oscillator, are also now entering the multi-function world with the Kairos module.

Kairos is different. The developers promise it is designed to be easy to use and not have 100 submenus. This is often the problem with such feature-rich modules. See the Expert Sleepers Disting.

The operation of the 11HP “Master Controller” module is done via a large round display, two buttons, a big knob, and a small one. There is also a USB-C connection. All signals are visualized in the form of concentric rings.  The individual menus are also presented in a very appealing way in a circle.

And the USB socket is there for more than just firmware updates. The module is designed to work with Eurorack signals (CV, triggers…) and MIDI data as well. This also allows you to send signals into your DAW.

Unlike many others, Magerit has limited Kairos to a rather small but fine number of functions. It has 8 assignable outputs, each with a user-customizable LED.

Clocks, Sequences…

The Kairos module is about sequencing, rhythms, and modulations. For example, it hosts a unique sequencer hybrid between a step sequencer and an Euclidean sequencer. You can set the ratios, steps, create pulses, and rotations, and even automate parameters of it.

For advanced modulations, the module offers a shape section consisting of different LFO-style modulator waveforms (pulse, trapezoid, triangle, sine, bézier, and more). It also hosts the algorithm for the clock generator. Then, these waveforms can be deformed in a dedicated modifier section. Here you find features like phase/delay, multi-type crossovers, volume/offset, and more.

The module has a built-in MIDI converter. Signals can be forwarded to DAWs via this. This includes an advanced arpeggiator and polyphony reserved exclusively for the MIDI function

First Impression

The previous module release from Magerit had a very distinctive design. This is the case again here. I like the module very much. It’s not crammed with features, but those that are there seem to me to be very hands-on. I’m looking forward to deeper demos of Kairos.

Magerit Kairos is available now for 250€ + VAT from the official website.
