Arcaico Instruments Gladio is a new 10HP dual-function generator with various modes and modulatable envelopes and slopes.
At the end of August, the Italian company Arcaico Instruments released the compact but exciting Virgo oscillator. Among other things, this new 8HP analog oscillator offers dual cross modulation and morphing.
For the Virgo, there is now a matching envelope module in the same compactness. Arcaico Instruments Gladio is a new dual-function generator in just 10HP.
Arcaico Instruments Gladio
Gladio is a new 10HP dual-function generator module for Eurorack inspired by the great classics of modular synthesis, but also with its own reinterpretations, says Arcaico Instruments.
The module is capable of generating an envelope, an LFO, a complex shape generator, or an interactive modulator. Btw: Gladio recalls the ancient weapon, a symbol of precision and power.
Gladio features various operation modes. AR turns it into an attack-release envelope, while ASR gives you an attack-austain-release envelope where it remains “high” as long as the input gate remains active.
Then, you also have a cycle mode that transforms the generator into an LFO with variable rates from 0.2 ms to 23 minutes. So, you can use it for slow, evolving modulations or crazy audio-rate duties.
More special is the fuze mode, where envelope B follows envelope A with a 90° phase shift. It allows you to create quadrature modulations useful for stereo effects, timbre rotations, and complex patterns.
For more complexity, there is also an end-of-cycle output that triggers on each completed cycle and a sum out. The latter can be used to mix two envelopes and create more advanced modulation signals.
On the connection side, you have on each side outputs for the end of the circle and for the slope, two CV inputs, and a gate/trigger input.
First Impression
A neat dual-function generator with plenty of options. I like that it offers more than a classic dual envelope while remaining user-friendly and compact.
Arcaico Instruments Gladio is available now for an introductory price of 150€ instead of 170€.
