Arcaico Instruments Virgo is a new 8HP oscillator module for Eurorack with advanced dual cross-modulation and morphing capabilities.
Over the past few years, I’ve reported frequently on the Italian company Arcaico Instruments. The developers have already put together an impressive portfolio of modules. Currently, they’re either doing a summer cleanup or a complete portfolio overhaul.
Many modules have been sold out or discontinued, but there is also a new one with the Virgo oscillator.
Arcaico Instruments Virgo
Virgo is a new 8HP analog oscillator module for Eurorack with advanced shaping capabilities. At its core are four classic shapes, each with independent outputs.
A morph function creates more sophisticated waveforms, also with a dedicated output. Animation of the morpher is also possible thanks to the morph CV input and output.
Then, you can achieve pulse-width modulation and work with hard sync using the input on the front panel. If you want to get more complex shapes out of the module, you can use its unique double cross modulation features.
Yes, there is a dual cross modulation option, and you can modulate the input and output of it, giving you wild, unusual timbres. A waveform modulation input is also available.
According to Arcaico Instruments, Virgo is stable and accurate on the 1V/oct input up to eight octaves. Neat, the pitch can drop to very low frequencies, turning the Virgo oscillator into a mighty LFO.
First Impression
At first glance, it’s a lovely, compact oscillator with plenty of patching options. Dual cross-mod and morphing are the highlights, allowing you to take the oscillator into unfamiliar territory. It’s also very fairly priced.
Arcaico Instruments Virgo is available now for 140€
