Fors Sala is a new free shimmer “Ceremonial” reverb plugin for macOS, Linux, and Windows that can create instant ambient textures.
In recent years, the Swedish developers at Fors have spoiled us with beautiful, top-notch Max For Live devices. Some of them are very inspired by Elektron devices. No wonder, considering one of the developers was also part of the Digitone I development team.
They also make classic plugins. Following the Modal Synthesizer Tela, Fors has dropped Sala, a new free cross-platform reverb plugin.
Fors Sala
Sala is a new free shimmer reverb plugin. It focuses on shimmering effects and offers only one mode. Fors promises that Sala can turn the smallest of sounds into a wash of shimmering textures.
The plugin has five distinct parameters. Zoom is the pre-diffusion stage that works like zooming on a camera, giving a gentle softening effect to an up-close-and-personal sound. It’s a neat parameter to explore timbres other than huge ambient spaces with deep and colorful modulation.
Then, you can modify the size and density, giving you smaller or epic ambient spaces with more or less shimmering richness and overhaul character.
No matter how you set the parameters, it will not be your classic go-to reverb. Fors says, “It’s an incredibly unrealistic reverb with a lot of character, distilled into merely five controls from which you can take all kinds of twists and turns.” So it’s always a very creative, unique reverb.
The tone parameter is a filter for tweaking the reverb timbre further. Fors Sala does not offer a preset browser or presets. But with the amount of parameters, you don’t need.
First Impression
At first glance, it’s a simple but lovely sounding shimmer reverb plugin. It’s a beautiful gift from the Fors developer that you should not miss.
Fors Sala is a free download and runs as a VST3, AU, and CLAP plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel), Linux (Ubuntu 22+), and Windows.
