Aodyo Instruments has released the free Anyma Phi 1.2 firmware update that supercharges the physical modeling synth with 11 new oscillator types.

A year ago, the French company Aodyo Instruments started the Kickstarter campaign for the Anyma Omega. It’s an upcoming multi-timbral physical modeling Synthesizer with over 50 oscillator types, many effects, etc. I pledged for this, too. A year has now passed, and the synth has not yet been shipped to the supporters. There are reasons for these delays.

According to the developers, there were problems with the development which led to the delays. The major was the discontinuation of the display used in the Omega synth resulting in a redesign of the entire board. They hope to have the synth ready in the next few months.

Another synth, however, benefits from the Omega delays. There is a big free sound engine update for Anyma Phi that consoles a bit of the Omega delay.

As a reminder: the Anyma Phi is a paraphonic 4-voice physical modeling Synthesizer with over 40 oscillator types, many effects, etc. This is the basis of the upcoming Anyma Omega but in multi-timbral, polyphonic, etc.

The new Anyma Phi 1.2 firmware is a free update that supercharges the engine with new oscillator and effects power.

9 New Oscillators

On the oscillator side, you can explore nine new engines. First, you get two new fully tweakable physical modeling engines. Brass is a new physical model that mimics the sonic characteristics of a brass instrument.

The second addition is the free reed model that creates sounds similar to the melodica, harmonica, and accordion. These are two unusual sound generators for the oscillator section that gives you interesting new timbres.

Then, the developers ported some oscillator goodness over from the open-source Mutable Instruments Braids oscillator. It includes four new virtual analog models: the CSAW (inspired by the CS80), MORPH (inspired by the Kobol), SAWSQR, and SAWCOMB.

Next to this, you get three more digital-inspired oscillators also from the Braids source code: FM, SawFM (frequency modulation), and ZPDF (phase distortion, inspired by the CZ series).

These new oscillators expand nicely the virtual analog block of the Anyma Phi. These make more classic analog-style sounds possible. With the phase distortion, on the side, you can also explore these classic Casio CZ sounds.

New Effects

In addition to the nine oscillator types, the Anyma Phi 1.2 update also brings two new exciting, physical-modeling-oriented effects. An advanced filter bank with various controls as well as a comb filter. If you use these with higher feedback you can push any sound into physically modeling domains.

First Impression

The development delay from Anyma Omega is certainly a shame. But this update for the Anyma Phi shows that the Aodyo team is active with developing. An excellent update for the still a bit underrated Anyma Phi Synthesizer.

Aodyo Anyma Phi 1.2 update is a free download for existing users. Anyma Phi is available now in a special edition for 499€.

  1. Well, I take this as an update for the Omega. I mean, I wish they shared a bit more about their progress with that synth; I don’t care about months of delay… As long as there’s some sign of life, which has been my only issue with backing these gusy. Ah well, good things will come eventually… 🙂
