Apple Creator Studio is a new subscription service that bundles all its creative apps, including Logic Pro, Final Cut, and more.

Since the release of Logic Pro X in 2013, all updates for Apple’s DAW have been free. One $199.99 purchase and you get everything. Looking back over 10 years, that’s a large number of new features and content included as free updates.

Whether this will remain the case forever was questioned when Apple released Logic Pro for iPad, which required a subscription for the first time. This also now applies to the desktop DAW, but only as an option with the new Apple Creator Studio.

Apple today unveiled Apple Creator Studio, a new subscription service that bundles all the powerful creative apps into one collection. It is interesting that the service includes both macOS and iOS products.

The apps included with Apple Creator Studio for video editing, music making, creative imaging, and visual productivity give modern creators the features and capabilities they need to enjoy editing and tailoring their content while realizing their artistic vision, according to Apple.

The Apple Creator Studio costs $12,99 per month or $129 per year and includes the following desktop and iOS apps:

  • Logic Pro
  • Logic Pro for iPad (usually $4,99 per month)
  • Mainstage
  • Final Cut Pro for iPad (usually $4,99 per month)
  • Pixelmator Pro
  • Pixelmator Pro for iPad
  • Motion
  • Compressor
  • Keynote
  • Pages
  • Numbers,
  • Freeform

Don’t worry, you can still purchase the macOS versions of  Final Cut Pro, Pixelmator Pro, Logic Pro, Motion, Compressor, and MainStage individually as a one-time purchase on the Mac App Store

New Features For Logic Pro

Additionally, it comes with new intelligent features and premium content built on the familiar experience of Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Pixelmator Pro, Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and, later, Freeform.

They have already unveiled the first new features coming to Logic Pro that are available for both subscribers and one-time purchase users.

Synth Player is a new AI Session Player that delivers electronic music performances with a diverse range of chordal and synth bass parts. This new engine is developed in-house using Apple’s own team of expert sound designers.

As with every AI Session Player, creators can direct Synth Player using intuitive controls for complexity and intensity, while additional parameters unlock advanced performance capabilities. Synth Player can also access third-party Audio Units plug-ins or control an external hardware synthesizer.

Then, it also includes a new Chord ID feature that serves as your personal music-theory expert, turning any audio or MIDI recording into a ready-to-use chord progression.

It can analyze complex harmonic content from nearly any recording to automatically populate the chord track in Logic Pro. And since the chord track drives the performances of any AI Session Player, users can quickly audition different players, styles, and genres, allowing them creative freedom to experiment and dial in their favorite vibe.

According to Apple, it will also ship with a new sound library with hundreds of royalty-free loops, samples, instrument patches, drum sounds, and more.

Logic Pro for iPad will also include a new quick swipe comping feature from the macOS version. It also includes new Music Understanding features with natural language search in the sound browser to help users describe a loop or find similar loops. All this without tags, guesses, or filters.

First Impression

Apple Creator Studio is no surprise. I strongly suspected that Pro Apps would eventually be bundled in a subscription package. The fact that they’re including the iPad apps is interesting.

We already saw with Logic Pro/Final Cut for iPad that Apple is moving towards a subscription model. It’s a positive sign that macOS apps will continue to be offered as a one-time purchase.

Anyone already spending $9 a month on both iPad versions will likely go all in at $12.99 or $129, as this offers better value.

Apple Creator Studio will be available on the App Store beginning Wednesday, January 28, for $12.99 per month or $129 per year, with a one-month free trial.

College students and educators can subscribe for $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year. Alternatively, users can also choose to purchase the Mac versions of Final Cut Pro, Pixelmator Pro, Logic Pro, Motion, Compressor, and MainStage individually as a one-time purchase on the Mac App Store.
