Frostmod Audio RIFFOSC is a new free (pay-what-you-want) Supersaw oscillator for the Korg microKORG 2 Synthesizer.
Last October (2025), Korg released firmware 2.0 for the microKORG 2, which turned the synth into a Logue SDK-powered digital Synthesizer. A huge step for the microKORG 2.
Mainly because it allows you to customize the synth with new synthesis types and effects. A new KORG plugin has been released by Developer Frostmod Audio: RIFFOSC.
Frostmod Audio RIFFOSC
RIFFOSC is a new KORG oscillator plugin for the Korg microKORG 2. It is inspired by the Roland JP-8000/JP-8080 supersaw oscillator.
It supports up to 8 voices of polyphony and features two individually tunable supersaw oscillators, each with seven sawtooth oscillators per voice.
Since the JE-8086 emulator, we know that the original’s secret lies in 7 naive sawtooth waves passed through a high-pass filter. Plus, a hardware sample rate of 88.2 kHz to prevent aliasing.
It’s unknown whether the developer uses a high-pass filter here as well, but in any case, there are 7 saw waves. There are three modulation targets, including the oscillator’s pitch (1 & 2) and the oscillator mix.
First Impression
A lovely, new free oscillator plugin for the MicroKORG 2. I hope we’ll see more plugins for the synth in the future.
Frostmod Audio RIFFOSC is available now as a free download (pay what you want) and is only compatible with the Korg microKORG 2.
