Thonk Synth Triple Mod is a new 3-channel modulation hub module for Eurorack packed with features, incl. three CV-controllable envelopes.
If you solder your modules yourself, Thonk in the UK is one of the best-known places to go if you are looking for Eurorack DIY kits. The shop has also been developing its own Eurorack modules under the name Thonk Synth for some time now.
The sevent module is out now. Thonk Synth has today released Triple, a powerful but very accessible modulation hub module with tons of features.
Thonk Synth Triple Mod
Triple Mod is a new 3-channel modulation hub module for Eurorack with plenty of modulation flexibility in a compact 12HP module.
Thonk Synth Triple Mod has three independent channels, each of which has an attack/decay (AD) envelope in the default state.
They offer looping, linear/logarithmic slope, trigger/gate modes, and end-of-cycle (EOC) output. On top of that, each rise and fall time parameter is CV-controllable, making them super flexible.
Well, that’s just the default state. Each channel also has a unique additional mode, which is accessible with a button press.
One press, and the Triple Mod turns into a powerful modulation hub. Channel A becomes a wide-range LFO with a skew function.
Then, channel B transforms into a Turing Machine that loops a random sequencer. Channel C becomes an S&H with slew options, or a slew rate limiter with separate attack and decay controls. Clever, the loop LED changes color to show which mode you are in.
Each channel also has an EOC output next to its main output, which sends a trigger pulse when the envelope reaches the end of its cycle.
These EOC outputs are normalled down to the trigger input of the channel below, allowing Triple Mod to create interesting chain reactions and synchronised modulation events.
Alongside the EOC outputs, each channel has its own trigger input, two dedicated CV inputs, and a primary output (0V to +5V).
First Impression
A nice, feature-rich modulation module that’s still very intuitive and easy to use. It’s a shame that the module is only available as a DIY kit. I hope that changes someday.
Thonk Synth Triple Mod is available now as a full DIY kit with all SMD parts pre-soldered for £119.99 (excl VAT).
