Superbooth 24: LepLoop ArpoVoce, new Eurorack synth voice based on the Arpoloop

Superbooth 24: LepLoop will showcase ArpoVoce, a new Eurorack synth voice with four oscillators based on the Arpoloop synth.

The Italian developer LepLoop will also exhibit at this year’s Superbooth. Among other things, is known for the LEPLOOP groovebox, several little drone synths, and Eurorack modules.

Last summer, I reported on the Arpoloop project—a generative analog Synthesizer/groovebox with an experimental soul. This one isn’t finished yet. For the SB 24, you can now see a new synth voice for Eurorack.

ArpoVoce is a new 60HP analog synth voice based on the ArpoLoop Synthesizer.

The core consists of four flexible oscillators, white noise with filtering, a 6-channel audio mixer, a Cassa filter-based kick drum with distortion, a snare generator, 4 cascadable VCAs, and three multimode AR envelope generators.

A slightly different constellation for a synth voice opens up many possibilities.

4-Oscillator Fun

This starts with the oscillators, which offer different settings:

  • VCO1: sine wave with sync and FM  – VCO2: sine wave with FM
  • VCO 3: sine wave with sync and FM  – VCO 4: sine-square-sawtooth with LFO option.

A highlight of the oscillators is the ability to interconnect them in various ways to achieve different sounds.

For example, you can hard sync oscillators 1 and 3 or create a pseudo resonant filter with VCO 1 and 2 where the latter has the pitch and the first the harmonic content. This gives you two full voices.

Format sounds are also possible. Each oscillator also has its own VCA. Control it with VCO 4, and you will get a ring modulator.

Then, you get a white noise generator with a built-in filter (lowpass), allowing you to shape it. There is also kick generator(CASSA) based on a resonant lowpass filter with distortion, and a snare generator with frequency and decay controls.

Modulation

It hosts three attack-release envelope generators on the modulation side with three operation modes (gate, repeat, trig), long/short mode, and linear/exponential switch. Each

There are no LFOs onboard, but thanks to the envelopes’ repeat function, you can make three LFOs out of them. Further, it hosts four cascadable VCAs, also with some neat routing options.

  • VCA2 and VCA4 can be routed to another VCA output, obtaining a velocity control with ext cv in, or a double modulation, up to three VCA’s can be chained.
  • A white noise can be used for VCA2 input, this can give a further piattino (high hat) sound.
  • VCA1 has an exernal audio input

First Impression

At first glance, it’s a remarkable synth voice from LepLoop. It’s interesting to see that many things are solved internally so that you don’t need a lot of patch cables. The first demos sound solid.

LepLoop ArpoVoce availability and price TBA. LepLoop will have a booth at Superbooth 24 (Z236).
