Temecula DSP MDV-II is a new free multi-FX plugin that emulates the vintage Alesis MidiVerb II FX unit from 1987.

In early March, the new software company Temecula DSP attracted attention with the DEEP/4, an authentic emulation of the Ensoniq DP/4 hardware multi-FX processor. The next plugin is now available and free to download.

Temecula DSP has released MDV-II, an emulation of the popular Alesis MidiVerb II hardware multi-FX processor.

MDV-II is a new free multi-FX plugin for macOS and Windows based on the Alesis MidiVerb II from 1987.

In a forum post, Temecula DSP revealed that he used the famous AI tool Claude as a compiler for Deep/4, and I suspect the same was true for MDV-II as well.

You can find more information in the comments section of my article about the Deep/4 plugin, where the developer explains it in more detail.

The Alesis MidiVerb II is a well-known hardware tool, but it also polarizes music producers. Some can’t do without it, while others find it too dominant, almost disruptive to the sound. This tool is now available as a plugin for every DAW.

According to the developer, the plugin faithfully emulates the custom DASP-16 chip at the instruction level, running all 128 instructions per sample at the original 23,437.5 Hz internal sample rate.

Plus, every program produces the same output as the original hardware – including its characteristic warmth and bandwidth-limited charm.

Original Set Of Algorithms

DSP MDV-II features all 100 original factory programs, organized into seven categories: reverb, gate, reverse, flange, chorus, delay, and EFX, with unique ones like multi-tap ambience or frozen flange. There are also two distinct output filter modes.

Vintage mode engages a three-stage analog reconstruction filter chain modeled after the MidiVerb II hardware output path. It gives you the original, darker tone of the hardware.

Turn off the vintage mode, and you can work with a clean 4th-order Butterworth filter at 11,000 Hz. This provides transparent anti-aliasing to the character and gives you a brighter, more open sound.

As with the hardware, you can select and program the algorithms with the numbered buttons. Further, you have input level, mix, and output level knobs for precise control over signal flow.

First Impression

The Alesis MidiVerb II is still used by many people today. So it’s great to see that there’s now an authentic emulation available, which is even free and therefore accessible to everyone.

Temecula DSP MDV-II is available for free download now. It runs as a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.

  1. I own a Midiverb II and am really looking forward to comparing this to the real thing; I expect to be impressed. That said, the DP/4 emulation appeals far more.

  2. What a Gem, Love it 🙂
Yes, there are other more sophisticated freebies like the ones from Valhalla but MidiVerb II has this unique sound that others can not reproduce… Love it
