Superbooth 24: Jolin has announced Avalith, a new drone Synthesizer with a matrix of 100 raw oscillators with flexible routings.
Here is my first-look video of the new Avalith drone synth, including a developer talk with Frederico, the founder of Jolin Lab.

At no other event like the Superbooth can you see so many different flavors of synthesizers, from classic (Sequential, Oberheim, Korg…) to Eurorack modules, but also experimental synths that probably trigger fewer people directly.
The latest release from the Italian company Jolin Tech certainly belongs to the last one. It’s a new drone Synthesizer with a fascinating concept.
Jolin Avalith
Avalith is a new drone Synthesizer with a matrix of 100 raw oscillators. One hundred oscillators are freaking a lot. But these are not just installed like that but embedded in a frame that can be freely configured.
According to Jolin, Avalith operates on the principle of utilizing transistors in a state known as registers—a concept the developers already used in their fascinating Tabor module. The main is to create sound walls by manipulating pure electrical signals.
The core uses 100 transistor-based oscillators with 20 different oscillation frequencies divided into 10 banks, each with a control wheel potentiometer. They also have starve input, dedicated output, and an assignable performance-oriented button.
Each group/bank also includes an internal patch bay, dedicated I/O sockets, and performance-oriented buttons with customizable functions. A unique feature is starve control, which regulates the voltage entering the transistors to induce the register state, and it is adjustable via CV at both individual bank and master levels.
Then, the filter is less fascinatingly different. It uses an analog-state 4-pole lowpass filter with resonance and frequency controls. It also has dedicated CV inputs and an attenuverter for external control.
Jolin Avalith also includes a built-in input preamp with various routing options, enabling users to incorporate external audio sources into the unit with blending functionality.
Standard & USB-C Power
The unit works as a standalone desktop unit and as a Eurorack module. Avalith boasts an innovative hybrid power supply utilizing USB-C Power Delivery (20V), with the DC barrel plug doubling as an output to power another compatible eurorack case. This makes outdoor jams with a PD power bank possible.
First Impression
A very special, intriguing experimental drone synth. This is a very unusual concept, and I am very curious about how it works. Stay tuned for my video presentation video from Superbooth 24.
Jolin Avalith will be available soon for 1189€.
