NUSofting Sosir is a new free experimental freeze delay plugin for macOS, and Windows that lets you create bowed sounds from any source.
Their latest plugin is a delay effect processor with a special feature set, and the best news, it’s a free download.
NUSofting Sosir
Sosir is a new free experimental delay plugin. The developers aimed to create a delay that could create bowed sounds by freezing an incoming input.
The plugin consists of two stages: a digital virtual bow and the delay line. The first uses a modeled bow section with four unique timbres (mellow tone, stereo slow, mono dark, stereo chorus). Each gives the sound its character with adjustable lowpass and highpass filters, bow dry/wet, and sub-octave doubling.
Then, you have the delay section with time control, ranging from 40ms to 2000ms. There is also feedback, a LFO with depth and rate control, an a built-in reverb. In the last stage, you also have a dry/wet mix control. Do not confuse it with the bow wet/dry mix, both are independent of each other
First Impression
I downloaded it directly onto my system. Runs perfectly on Apple Silicon. The plugin is not a feast for the eyes from the GUI but sounds very lovely and atmospheric.
The built-in bow gives the sounds something special. Mixed together with reverb, you can get something dreamy. All I can say is give it a try, it’s worth it.
NUSofting Sosir is available now as a free download. It runs as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
