Lillian is a new free Korg SDK plugin that squeezes the Mutable Instruments (MI) Braids macro oscillator in the drumlogue hybrid Synthesizer.
The Korg multi-engine is a fantastic community-driven platform for both developers and users. First introduced in the Prologue 8/16 synthesizers, it was also built into the NTS-1 and minilogue xd. The nice thing about the engine is its openness and flexibility. By simply replacing plugins, each Korg SDK synth can be given new features. Like new oscillators or effects.
With the drumlogue, Korg introduced the second generation of SDK multi-engine which has more power. So developers have more power resources to develop more extensive plugins. Now you can also put the Mutable Instruments Braids macro oscillator in your drumlogue.
Lillian
The new Lillian is a new SDK plugin for the drumlogue, so the second generation of the multi-engine. It’s a port of the open-source code of the macro oscillator Braids from Mutable Instruments. A module that went off the market a few years ago.
This new drumlogue plugin gives you tons of algorithms powered by various synthesis technologies. Including classic virtual analog (CS-80-style…), direct digital synthesis (swarm, circuit-bend, lo-fi, FM…), physical and percussive models, wavetables, and flexible noise sources.
Then, it also hosts two envelope generators with flexible trigger inputs and eight additional CV signals. The latter are derived from calculations involving two EG signals
First Impression
If this continues, every digital instrument of the future will have Mutable code. Now also the drumlogue. But it’s a nice release above all because it makes many new timbres possible.
Lillian by Boochow Instruments is available now as a pay-what-you-want SDK plugin for the Korg drumlogue. The plugin is not compatible with the first-generation multi-engine (minilogue xd, NTS-1, and prologue 8/16).

boochow is a great logue developer. thank you boo!
Impressive to read about it but the demo video sounded terrible.
Braids has a rough sound to it. not surprised by the sound. personally, I thought there was some very interesting hooks using the dual chained envelopes. cool to see something different in play for a change. I’m not in the market for another drum machine, but this would be an possibility in the future. i just wosh they hadn’t changed the SDK between releases. it’s more maintenance i don’t care to submit myself too.
