BLEASS Fusion is a new effects plugin for mac, win, and iOS that lets you create your own distortions using wavetables, filters, and more.

Distortions are often associated with guitar music such as rock or metal. But they also are welcome effects on electronic sounds, for example, in the industrial field. They don’t necessarily have to distort sounds completely; they can also add that extra something to clean sounds. Or just give character.

With Fusion, the French developer company BLEASS has released a new, unique flavored distortion plugin, which can also be exciting for electronic sound explorers.

BLEASS Fusion

Fusion is a new distortion plugin (mac, win, iOS) —nothing unusual at first glance. It consists of four sections: saturation, filter, modulation, and sequence.

Unlike classic distortions, Fusion uses wavetables in the engine to generate the effects. BLEASS ships the plugin with 58 different wavetables, giving you a wide range of distortion timbres. Alternatively, you can drop custom wavetables into a folder. This opens the door to infinite distortion types.

The wavetable magic happens in the saturation section. Before it goes into the distortion, you can spice up your signal with a pre-drive. The wavetable distortions can be fine-tuned with two slider parameters. This gives more ways to discover new timbres.

Then, you can further shape the distortion in the filter section, consisting of two multimode filters. Filter 1 with highpass, bell, and notch, while filter 2 offers lowpass, bell, and notch. Both filters offer frequency, resonance, gain, and mix controls. A big plus is that you can route them pre- or post-distortion, allowing you to shape the sound very flexibly.

Modulated Distortions

Those who would like to animate their distortions rhythmically or want to use them dynamically are in the right place with the last two sections. First, you get a modulation section with two multi-wave LFOs and an envelope follower. Both modulators are feature-intensive and offer a lot of freedom for adjustments

Secondly, Fusion hosts a flexible 16-step motion sequencer with additional programmable randomness, making rhythmic distortions a piece of cake.

First Impression

Fusion isn’t your super classic distortion found in every guitar pedal. BLEASS’ latest plugin explores new corners of it and is significantly more experimental. The possibility to load custom wavetables and tweak them with filters allows everyone to build their own distortion timbres.

BLEASS Fusion is available now for $19,99 and runs as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS (Intel + native Apple Silicon) and Windows. There is also an iOS version with AUv3 support available for $9,99.
