Happy 303 day, and d16 Group is celebrating the day with a 50% OFF discount on its TB-303 emulation Phoscyon 2 synth plugin.
Happy 303 day. The 303 day is a day like any other for most people worldwide. For electronic musicians, however, it is a special one. It bears the name of the legendary Roland TB-303 analog Bassline Synthesizer. Released by Roland in 1981, it was designed to simulate bass guitars. However, the product was a flop and was discontinued in 1984.
It was only many years later that it achieved cult status and became one of the most influential instruments in electronic music. In 2023 you can no longer avoid the screaming sound of the TB-303. Whether in hardware or software, a 303 is everywhere, even on mobile devices like iOS.
Companies like Cyclone Analogic or Behringer bring the sound of the 303 into every studio for little money. In-the-box users also have a wide range of emulations to choose from.
One of the most famous and newest emulations is the Phoscyon 2 from the Polish company d16 Group. For the 303 weekend, you can grab it with a 50% OFF discount. All detailed information about the new version can be found here in my first-look article.
d16 Phoscyon 2
The big highlight compared to any TB-303 or clone/replica hardware is the engine, which goes far beyond what the original can do. Some of the key features are:
- multiple analog-modeling engines
- Calibration parameters for creating your own TB-303
- vibrato effect that relies on two alternating notes
- 19 dedicated distortion models
- recordable insert effects: algorithmic reverb, 4-band parametric EQ, delay with tempo sync and in-loop multimode filter, chorus, and limiter
- advanced performance-optimized sequencer
- full MIDI learn
- presets
- …
Whether hardware or software, each 303 has something unique, with its advantages and disadvantages. If you’re looking for an authentic emulation for your DAW setup, you’ve come to the right place.
I wish you a lot of fun with your 303 synthesizers on the 303 days and let the resonance scream
