U-he has today unveiled Hive 2.1, a free update of its modern & CPU-friendy Synthesizer that intros 4 new filter types, Apple M1 support, new patches & more.
Plugin updates are more important than ever. This should always be an important point when deciding on an audio plugin. A plugin can be excellent but without continuous support from the manufacturer, the fun will only last for a short time. At the latest until the next major OS update. U-he from Berlin is one of the best in this discipline. They publish regular updates with new features, improvements & more for free.
Now Hive has got an update that not only makes the plugin ready for the future but also adds many new creative features. Hive 2.1 comes with four new filter types, Apple macOS Big Sur and M1 hardware support, 100 new patches, new Plugmon skin & more.

Urs Heckmann and his hard-working team regularly give us new versions of their plugins. We like to see so much product maintenance and are always welcome. Hive 2.1 is yet another solid free update. Hive 2.1 adds 4 new filter modes including comb, dissonant, reverb, and sideband.
The U-he team also added new modulation sources and targets to the mod system. With the arrival of the new filters, the filter modulations also received an upgrade with 4 new filter modulation targets: spread, damp, radio, mix. The variety of sounds has grown again due to this. For example, you can create now polyphonic reverb or ring-mod-like effects thanks to the new sideband filter. You can now modulate the pan of the delay & reverb as well as the positions A/B/C/D of the shape sequencer. The latter also has now a halt option.
The browser now features ‘Bank’ folders, which already list the factory presets by origin. Users can create custom banks via drag & drop, for instance, all the Hive sounds you have used in one particular track. Plus, U-he has added 100 new presets to the factor library which appears in the “Hive Factory 2.1” bank. Other workflow-related options include Scope viewing of modulation matrix outputs and a lovely new skin “Izmo” by Plugmon. Further, it adds a new scale quantizer menu with 15 scale options.
For Mac users, there are big changes. The macOS 32-bit support has been dropped. Instead, Hive 2.1 now supports macOS BigSur and the new M1-based Macs. AAX Mac is temporarily unavailable until AAX support for Big Sur/Apple Silicon arrives. Pro Tools users should continue using Hive 2.0.1 until further notice.
U-he Hive 2.1 is a free update for all current Hive 2 owners.
