Superbooth 24: Sebsongs Modular Bread Butter is a new polyphonic synth voice based on General MIDI sounds.
Synth voices are handy modules because they allow you to easily enter the modular world. They offer everything you need to start in modular in a module, including classic oscillators, filters, envelopes, etc. A perfect example is the new SED-CSM synth voice from Rides In The Storm.
At Superbooth 24, Sebsongs Modular showcased Bread & Butter, another new synth voice for Eurorack. This, however, has a different touch.
Sebsongs Modular Bread & Butter
Bread & Butter is a new polyphonic synth voice for Eurorack. Unlike classic analog synth voices, it uses 128 selectable General MIDI sounds plus a drum preset for sound generation. The big encoder on the front panel allows you to select the instruments.
Then, it has tune and pan functionalities. The latter allows you to spread the polyphonic voices out in the stereo sound field. It’s important to say that the complete feature is not yet known. This will only happen when the module is released in the coming days.
Bread & Butter can be played either with the 1V/oct and gate input or via TRS MIDI. Sebsongs Modular promises that it can play back standard GM MIDI from your old favorite DOS games).
Further, you get stereo outputs and CV control over the main parameters: pitch bend, velocity, and sustain. There is also a hold button with which you can archive sustaining notes.
First Impression
A fun and different idea for a polyphonic synth voice for Eurorack. I’m not sure if many people need these sounds in Eurorac but I’m looking forward to the official demo.
Sebsongs Modular Bread & Butter will be released at the end of May/early June 2024. The price is TBA.
