At Machina Bristonica 2024, Bela releases Gliss 1U, the horizontal version of its best-selling touch-sensitive controller and modulation recorder module.
The Gliss is one of the most performance-oriented and fun modules in recent years. It’s a 4HP open-source capacitive touch controller that allows you to control parameters via CV. A highlight is that you can record these movements as a modulation source and play them as a loop, resulting in super flexible modulation signals.
At the Machina Bristonica event, Bela is now showing the 1U version of the Gliss module.
Bela Gliss 1U
The new Gliss 1U with 24HP is the beloved capacitive touch controller module in the Intellijel 1U format. It offers the same creative features as its vertical 4HP brother, only with a smaller touch strip.
Gliss can simultaneously produce two high-resolution signals based on various combinations of your finger’s position and touch size. These signals are available via two CV outputs, offering two distinct but related dimensions of control to route around your system.
Like the 4HP version, the new Bela Gliss 1U offers gesture recording functionality. You can capture up to 150 seconds and then play them black looped, triggered, clocked, and more. This allows you to create all kinds of long-form modulation signals, custom LFOs, envelopes, and more.
In addition, Gliss 1U has a mode for processing incoming audio and CV signals, where you can scale, offset, clip, and smooth them. The mode also offers five tunable notes that are playable as a keyboard or step sequencer.
On the connection side, the module offers a mono input (-5 V to 10 V, over-voltage protection) and two mono outputs (-5 V to 10 V configurable). Plus, there is a button for selecting the modes and a USB micro (why?!) for firmware updates, customization, and hacking.
First Impression
It is great to see that the Bela Gliss is now available in 1U. This is particularly interesting for portable Eurorack setups that use small cases like Intelijel Palette.
