NAMM 2026: Delta Sound Labs XStream is a new spatial live granular Synthesizer plugin for macOS, Linux and Windows.

Granular synthesizers were trending in 2025. From hardware and plugins to apps, everything was included. The trend doesn’t seem to be dying down.

At NAMM 2026, Delta Sound Labs has announced a further development of its Stream granular FX plugin, turning it into a Synthesizer called XStream.

XStream is a MPE-compatible granular Synthesizer plugin that builds on the foundation of the Stream effects plugin from 2020. Delta Sounds Labs, however, have taken XStream out of the effect-only world and shaped it into a hybrid.

You can use it as an effect and Synthesizer. For this, the cores has two modes: a single mode where you you turn any sample into evolving pads and textures. Time and pitch are handled independently

In the new multi mode, you can turn your samples into a playable granular Synthesizer with polyphonic grain engines, full MIDI tracking, and more.

One highlight of XStream is the ability to record and capture sounds live with overdubbing. Most granular synthesizers are limited to sample import. This allows you to capture new timbres on the fly and use them as a sound source.

Xstream features classic grain features like grains amount, size, spread, and envelope control. Well, anyone can do granular stereo, so Delta Sounds Labs has decided to take take the engine to the spatial level.

Spatial Granular Synthesis

The plugin features a powerful 3D spatialzation engine using Steam Audio’s HRTF technology. Exciting in multi mode because here each note becomes its own spatial object. You can place grains in stereo or surround fields.

One step further, you can even animate the grains in this spatial engine with the built-in orbit, drift, and randomized motion paths. Be ready for flying grains in space.

Further Delta Sound Labs gives Xstream users the option shape each grain or voice with its own effects chain, using the per-voice distortion (analog/digital-style) and the texturizer.

The texturizer includes drive, ladder filter, and tape delay with feedback.

First Impression

Yes, it’s another granular Synthesizer. However, what I really like about it is the ability to record live audio as well as the spatial audio option. I’m looking forward to check out the demo.

Delta Sound Labs XStream will be available in early April 2026 for an introductory price of $79 instead of $99. It runs as a VST3, and AU plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel), Linux, and Windows
