Tweeeeeak! Roat v2 and RoaR are two new experimental oscillators for the Korg NTS-1 and NTS-1 mkII hardware synthesizers.
It’s two days before Christmas. If you’re still looking for a Christmas present that won’t break the bank, here’s a tip. The Korg NTS-1 mkII is a portable, affordable Synthesizer that, thanks to its open architecture, is constantly receiving new algorithms and therefore never gets boring.
I have something for people who already own the original NTS-1 or the new NTS-1 mkII. Tweeeeeak! has released Roat v2 and RoaR, two new free experimental-flavored oscillators.
Tweeeeeak! Roat v2 and RoaR
Roat v2 and RoaR are two new free oscillators from the developer Tweeeeeak!. You can download it for free from the developer’s GitHub, and the noisy fun can begin.
ROAT v2 is an 8-bit experimental oscillator inspired by the Soma Rumble of Ancient Times Synthesizer. It includes four oscillators that can be triggered independently by pressing four different zones of the keyboard. Alternatively, you can use them in a sequence.
Each oscillator features up to 16 waveshapes and dedicated controls, including pitch, wave, and a multi-wave LFO (pitch or amp). The real fun begins when you combine the four zones.
Combining oscillator activation with different settings per oscillator and various combination algorithms, along with randomization and chaos, gives you a wide range of sonic possibilities, from melodic to digital noise. All these are playable chromatically.
The algorithm also offers three oscillator combination diagrams with seven different summing algorithms per node, including the option to FM, giving you super wild sounds. There are also two randomization algorithms.
Users of the Korg NTS-1 mkII benefit from an additional external input-processing feature.
RoaR
Alongside the Tweeeeeak! Roat v2 algorithm, the developer also released RoaR, another fascinating free algorithm for the NTS-1 and NTS-1 mkII.
RoaR is described as a very simple oscillator that randomly generates digital sounds and sequences, with a simple turn of a knob. Each sound can be a simple patch or a rhythmic (16-step) sequence.
You can play simple, tuned, and playable sounds, or go wild with glitchy, complex, and totally random sounds. Rhythmic sequences can also be synced to the ARP or SEQ and external equipment.
First Impression
Two fascinating, fun oscillators for the NTS-1 and NTS-1 mkII. They come out at the perfect moment when you have time to work on your gear calmly. Happy Noisemas!
Tweeeeeak! Roat v2 and RoaR are now available for free download from the developer’s GitHub repository. They run on the Korg NTS-1 and NTS-1 mkII. While browsing the developer’s GitHub, don’t miss the other NTS-1 algorithms.
