The Waverazor is one of the most innovative Synthesizer plugins of recent years. Its unique feature allows you to slice waveforms in various ways in real time and animate the process on top. Waverazor’s results are very wild and different.
If that’s too nerdy and deep, there is also MOK Miniraze, the slimmed-down version from 2021. Miniraze takes the Waveraze engine and packages it in an easy-to-use format. Good news: In April, you can get Miniraze for free with every purchase at Plugin Boutique.
MOK Miniraze (Free)
MOK Miniraze is a unique Synthesizer plugin for macOS, Linux, and Windows. It uses three patented wave-slicing oscillators taken from the Waverazor plugin. However, the section is much more accessible and easy to use than the entire engine.
The workflow is the same for every oscillator. Pick two waveforms, tune them separately, and slice/mangle them with the razor functions. Don’t forget to use the ring math that hosts 21 different types of ring modulation, making your sounds even more special. Plus, you can work with sync, and more.
Then, you have a mixer section where you can mix in an additional multi-timbre noise layer. From here, it goes into two filters in series, each with 13 filter options, including subtractive and generative types.
The modulation table contains four advanced ADSR envelopes and four synchronizable multi-wave LFOs, each offering dedicated matrix menus with multiple destinations.
For the final touch, it also includes nine onboard effects, including delay, reverb, chorus, flanger, phaser, and distortion. Other features are:
- built-in arpeggiator with an option to produce random notes from chords
- unison mode
- vintage-style mode that gives you organic randomness of vintage analog synths
- external Audio input lets you process instruments, voices and other sounds
- 32 different Color Themes available for venturing beyond red and blue
- support for 35 languages, including Sanskrit, Elvish, and Klingon
If you only want the plugin, I recommend looking for a product between 5€ and 10€; Miniraze is an excellent deal. The MOK Miniraze is a nice free bonus for anyone wanting to buy something.
