SetonixSynth SkyWave is a new analog oscillator module that uses a step-based controlled circuit for varying timbres and harmonic behaviors.
Analog oscillators are often based on classic analog circuits, such as those of Moog, Roland, Oberheim, etc. Small boutique companies and big players offer many of these oscillators.
Analog sounds can also be created in other ways. SetonixSynth, from the US, is demonstrating this with an exciting new analog oscillator for Eurorack just before the end of the year.
SetonixSynth SkyWave
SkyWave is a new 14HP analog voltage-controlled oscillator with a twist. It uses an internal feedback loop with the oscillator’s clock output, which triggers an internal step sequencer. The latter cycles through settings at the core oscillator’s frequency, giving the waveform output different shapes and levels per oscillator cycle.
Therefore, SkyWave is constantly in motion. However, it stays in tune and tracks pitch like a typical VCO, as SetonixSynth promises. It’s definitely a fascinating, unusual concept for an analog oscillator.
The user has complete control over this entire analog process. The module has various controls, including coarse-tuning, fine-tuning, waveshape, sequencer steps, PWM, and more.
Besides its 1v/oct input, it also has plenty of CV controls over the parameters. For example, you have a dedicated clock input and reset for the internal step sequencer, hard-sync, and FM/phase-mod inputs.
Great, it can be used as a complex VCO or LFO thanks to its different output frequency ranges. Further, you can find additional sine and clock waveform outputs. On top, you get clock division and per-step CV control over the oscillator via the additional Scaffold expander.
Check out the first demo of the developer to hear it in action.
First Impression
It is an interesting new analog oscillator with a fresh concept. I am looking forward to more demos that show the oscillator in detail and in the musical concept.
SetonixSynth SkyWave is available now for pre-order for $299. Shipping starts in February 2025.

The Skywave expander module “Scaffold” adds CV over individual waveform and level control! Pretty sweet altogether. Reminds me of the Time Segment Oscillator (RIP). Nice module Setonix.
