Deal: Zoom has announced its new H field recorders at NAMM 2024; the current non-32-bit models are now up to 33% OFF, including the H6.Zoom
This week, Zoom announced the latest generation of H field recorders at NAMM 2024. They offer some new features, including the highlight 32-bit recording. As a big fan and user of the H6 (10 years), I look forward to the latest version.
Thanks to a reader who tipped me off to the deal, dealers appear to be already selling out of stock for the current H series. For example, Thomann and Sweetwater already have almost all H field recorders with big discounts. Mmmh, maybe an H6 is still needed as a replacement.
Deal Zoom H
Four of the current H Field Recorders are on sale. Starting with the entry-level budget H recorder, the H1n. It has built-in X/Y microphones, a mic/line input, and line output. Initially sold for around 99€, then dropped to 89€ in 2023 to 59€. That’s a 33% discount, almost half of since mid-2023. A no-brainer deal to me.
The all-time classic of many musicians is the H4n with up to four channels recording, classic Zoom preamps, two XLR/TRS combo connectors, onboard X/Y microphones, and more. It was 239€, dropped at the end of 2023 to 207€, and now it’s 199€. This a 20% discount since mid-2023. For US readers, you get a better deal. Sweetwater has it on sale for just $169.
Let’s move on to the higher versions. Although just as affordable at the current price. The H5 also has two comb jacks with independent volume controls and X/Y microphones. A difference to the H4 is that it offers a swappable microphone capsule, allowing you to change the characteristics of the mic. The last long-term price was around 239€, then dropped to 207€, and now it’s 199€. It’s a not massive discount but still 20% at Thomann.
A big deal, at least for me, is the H6. It offers up to six channels via the four onboard combo XLR – 1/4″ jacks, the capsule microphone, and the built-in stereo input. Additionally, you can add two more big jacks via the EXH-6.
For a long time, it was on the shelf for 327€, dropped in late 2023 to 277€, and is now 229€ or $229. That’s a 30% discount—an excellent deal for a high-quality audio & field recorder. I’ve used the H6 for trade fair coverage, video recordings, etc., for 10 years.
Deal Impression
You get rock-solid field recorders at excellent prices if you can do without 32-bit recording and the small other new features (silent buttons…). The H1N and H6, in particular, are no-brainers for these prices.
