Superbooth 23: Dreadbox has pulled out the analog heart of Typhon and packed it into Telepathy, a programmable, nifty 10HP synth voice.

And now it’s complete. After the release of the Dreadbox Telephaty voice module in June, initially announced Superbooth 23, the bundle is now also available.

It consists of six Telephaty voice modules and the Psychosis six-channel stereo mixer module. Together, they form a six-voice polyphonic modular Synthesizer with independent control over MIDI, CV, and gate.

As a reminder, each voice has a hybrid architecture featuring an analog Typhon core with a VCO, VCF, VCA, and a digital side with an LFO and two envelopes.

You can use it in different setups, incl. a 6-voice synth, a 6-voice multi-timbral synth, as a drum machine, or in a unique setup with 3- 3-voice poly, 1 bass, and two drums.

The Telepathy bundle (7 modules, a 70HP case, cables, MIDI adapter, and power supply) is now available for 967€ + VAT. /$1199.

Update From June 23, 2023

At Superbooth 23, Dreadbox showed Telepathy, a very intriguing chainable synth voice concept for Eurorack, allowing to create of a polyphonic modular synth with just a few modules.

Today, the good news, the module is available now from the Dreadbox website. It will be available very soon also from retailers worldwide.

Article From May 10th, 2023

Working with polyphony in Eurorack is not easy. As mentioned in another article: you can go the complete way or the more comfortable way with synth voices dedicated to poly tasks. Dreadbox has opted for the latter.

I have to disappoint you the leaked Murmux polysynth from the last Superbooth 22 doesn’t seem to be finished yet. However, a new module. It is a nifty synth voice module. You can drive it as an individual module and also chain it with others. This can go so big that you can even build a polyphonic modular synth together.

Dreadbox Telepathy

Telepathy is Dreadbox’s answer to bringing polyphony to Eurorack. It’s a 10HP analog digitally-controlled synth voice module that can be chained up to 8 voices. So you can create an 8-voice analog modular Synthesizer from it.

The module’s analog core (VCO, VCF, VCA) comes from the Dreadbox Typhon mono synth. It consists of an analog oscillator with saw/square waveforms, a -1 octave sub, and noise with level control. Additionally, you get PW control for the square, fine-tuning, and automatic tuning. That’s handy, especially in a chained setup.

Then, the signals go through an analog 24dB resonant lowpass filter with oscillator FM and noise FM. A 6HP highpass filter is also available. The last part of the analog signal path is the VCA.

Digital

Now it’s time for the digital side of the module. It hosts a single multi-wave LFO (triangle, saw, ramp, square, random) with free-running , key-track, and BPM key mode. There is also a neat fade-in function to create “delayed” modulations. The LFO is here hardwired to various parameters.

Next, you have two envelopes. One is for the VCA with velocity control, while the other is a loopable envelope for the lowpass filter, pitch, or PW.

Telepathy has a CV that can be mapped to a single or all the basic parameters in parallel with a dedicated amount for each parameter. There is also an external input. You get pitch (1v/oct), gate inputs, and MIDI in and out/ Thu.

Yes, the module is fully MIDI controllable, greatly simplifying polyphony here. Via MIDI, you enable a multi-timbral chaining functionality to create a big poly modular consisting of 8 modules.

It also works with MIDI CC on the input and output side. So you can automate parameters or use an editor. It also supports program change in/out. On top, you can save up to 16 presets right in the module.

Due to its compact design, the module is very menu-heavy. Reminds me of the Nymphes. However, a big like for the sliders

First Impression

An interesting module with which you can easily go polyphonically in Eurorack. Since you have everything in one module, you start straight with a poly synth but still benefit from CV options. Thus, you can work on a modular level. In terms of operation, I’m not sure if it’s much fun. Menu diving in Eurorack is not super pleasing. Well, we have to see how deep the structure is.

Bundle price: 1199 euros (includes 6x Telepathy, 1x new utility module, 1x 70HP eurorack case)

Dreadbox Telepathy will be available for 299€ in June 2023. There will also be a complete system with 6 Telephatys and 1 new utility module in a 70HP Eurorack case for 1199€. So a 6-voice modular synth.
