Electra One Mini, the feature-rich MIDI controller for hardware and software in compact

SYNTH ANATOMY uses affiliation & partner programs (big red buttons) to finance a part of the activity. If you use these, you support the website. Thanks!

Electra One Mini is the compact and more affordable version of the MKII MIDI controller, with the same platform features.

The Electra One MkII is a fascinating hardware MIDI controller with a big screen that enables easy, convenient control of both hardware and software. The over 300 available templates for synths, effects, and more eliminate the need to map individual parameters.

It has evolved far beyond the key feature parameter editing over the past few years and has become a true MIDI control center. The Electra One now has a more compact, affordable sibling: the Electra One Mini.

The new One Mini version brings the Electra platform to studios and stages in a smaller, more affordable package. More precisely, it has the dimensions 140 x 140 x 38 mm / 5.5 x 3.1 x 1.5 in and is made of sturdy aluminium.

Besides its small footprint, the Electra One Mini offers eight high-resolution, 360°-touch-sensitive knobs with push-button action, instead of 12. The six buttons are onboard, but arranged differently

Then the display is different as well. It’s smaller, non-touch, and only has a 5″ LCD with 800×480 resolution instead of a 7″ with 1024×600 resolution. The backside also bears differences from the flagship version.

The 5-pin MIDI ports have been replaced with two TRS MIDI sockets that can be configured as inputs or outputs.

What remains, however, are the USB port and the USB host. The USB device port gives you two virtual MIDI ports, and on the USB host port, you can connect two USB-MIDI controllers.

The unit is powered via USB and requires a current between 150 mA and 300 mA.

Same MK2 Platform Features

The Electra One Mini is significantly smaller than the regular EO but has the same platform features. This includes, of course, the key feature, the ability to create custom MIDI CC templates for hardware and software devices.

But before you start building a template, you should check out the library with over 300 templates. These are especially useful for hardware synths that are very menu-diving intensive.

Thanks to numerous firmware updates over the past years, both the Electra One MkII and the Mini have become incredibly versatile in terms of MIDI capabilities. For example, it’s now a powerful MIDI router with advanced functionality.

With the custom API and Lua scripting support, users can even create their own MIDI features, such as modulators (envelopes, LFOs, sequencers), XY pads, clip launching, and much more.

Jürgen Moßgraber, developer of the CovertWithMOSS tool, demonstrates just how far this customizability can be taken. He programmed tons of new stuff, turning the Electra One into a powerful Bitwig controller.

First Impression

It’s very welcome to see the One getting a Mini version. I expect this version will please mostly people who primarily want to use it as a hardware and VST editor and don’t want to delve too deeply into its features. But it’s also possible with the Mini

The nice thing is that you can use all platform features even if you have to do without a touchscreen, fewer knobs, and a smaller display. The original was a bit too expensive for what I would use it for, but this version makes the whole topic tempting again.

Electra One Mini is available now for pre-order for 299€ + VAT. It will ship before the end of December 2025.
