ValhallaDSP has updated its epic free reverb plugin Supermassive to version 2.5 with two new delay/reverb modes.

If I’m asked for the best free reverb plugin, the ValhallaDSP Supermassive is my absolute number 1. With its 16 algorithms, it’s a great-sounding reverb, but also one that is musical and invites users to experiment with it. It lets you dive into new worlds.

For Black Friday week, Sean Costello has added two additional unique algorithms to the plugin. This brings the number of algorithms to 18 and there seems to be no end in sight. Other companies would make 18 plugins out of it, but ValhallaDSP makes it all available to the musician for free. Crazy deal.

The Supermassive 2.5 is another free update with two all-new algorithms for one of best free reverb plugins for macOS and Windows.

First, we get the Scorpio mode which is reminiscent of the Gemini mode in many ways, initially introduced with the 1.0 version. It brings fast attack, rapid build of echo density, and more of the vibe of a “conventional” reverb. The big difference is, however, the feedback path that offers built-in low EQ and high EQ within the paths.

Thanks to these, you can create very different effects. Including complex ping-pong delays, reverbs with a lot of stereo width, and realistic reverbs.

The second new mode is called Libra which can produce big lush modulated reverbs with a natural decay, says ValhallaDSP. It has a slower attack than Scorpio and also has low EQ and high EQ within the feedback paths. So every delay is filtered using these EQs. It can also sound like a delay at 4x the displayed delay length when WARP and Density are both at zero. I have to try this.

Black Friday?

In the evening I published my Best Plugin Deals 2022 list and who is wondering if ValhallaDSP also makes sales. Yes, the developer does a 365-day-long sale where they charge $50 per plugin. Jokes aside: ValhallaDSP never has Black Friday sales…, the plugins always cost $50 and that’s a good thing.

The plugins are still too cheap for the sound quality and support provided by Sean Costello from VDSP. No matter when you buy a Valhalla plugin or more, you always get a good deal. Don’t forget Supermassive is a free reverb that others would charge $100 for. And quite possibly pack in less support even with an unnecessary update fee per year.

Here is another sound demo that I made for an older free update.

Another fabulous update for the Valhalla Supermassive. I’m really looking forward to trying out the new modes. Thanks Sean, your support for the plugins is priceless.

The new ValhallaDSP Supermassive 2.5 update is available as a free download. It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (Intel, Apple Silicon) and Windows.
