United Plugins Cyberdrive Core is the one FX slot (lightweight) version of its flagship distortion plugin for macOS and Windows.
In the summer of 2024, United Plugins released Cyberdrive, a mighty three-layer distortion plugin. The highlight is the 64 algorithms, the ability to combine them wildly, and the refinement of them with an extra multi-FX layer.
If that is too many options for you, there is now a slimmed-down version of United Plugins called Cyberdrive Core. And users of the Cyberdrive get the Core for free.
United Plugins Cyberdrive Core
Cyberdrive Core is a new lightweight version of its flagship Cyberdrive distortion plugin. It offers a streamlined workflow and reduced CPU usage.
Like the big version, it comes with the same 64 distortion models, including bit-crushing, wave-shaping, and extreme “Doom” and “Freak” distortions.
United Plugins Cyberdrive Core’s interface features three knobs and two sliders for precise tweaking of each model’s unique parameters. Mix is a dry/wet mix, drive sets the level of distortion, and control tweaks a specific character parameter of the selected algorithm.
The sliders offer highpass and lowpass filters with various modes. On the interface’s button, Cyberdrive Core houses a preset browser, an A/B patch comparison option, redo/undo functions, and a randomizer.
In addition to the 1-slot limitation, the multi-FX processor is also missing in the Cyberdrive Core version.
First Impression
This is a nice stripped-down version of Cyberdrive with a more hands-on design. If you only want the number of distortion algorithms, you can get here an affordable, super versatile, multi-flavored distortion plugin. A good move from the devs, offering the full version users the Core for free.
Cyberdrive Core is available for the introductory price of €9 until the end of March (regular price €39). Existing Cyberdrive owners automatically receive a license for Cyberdrive Core. Users can also upgrade from Core to the full version anytime for a discounted price.
It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
