Dune by Denis Villeneuve is a great, entertaining film with a lot of wow moments. Dune is also a successful Synthesizer plugin from the German developer company Synapse Audio. The name seems to stand for success. Dune, i.e. the synth, is currently in version 3 and is a popular instrument among EDM, trance and dance producers.
The free 3.5 update has recently been released, which has some nice features onboard.
Synapse Audio Dune 3.5
The new Dune 3.5 update brings some very welcome changes. Starting with a new VST 3 version for the plugin that is joint by full native support for Apple M1 machines. This means that even less CPU is used than before in the Rosetta 2 emulation. This comes along with a better memory usage. According to the developer each new plugin instance now consumes significantly less memory than in the version 3.4. They also increased the initial polyphony of 16 to 24.
Then, we get polyphonic aftertouch support via the modulation matrix. This it opens up a new chapter of more expressive sounds, especially in combination with a polyphonic aftertouch controller. On the modulation side, the update intros drag & drop modulation as well as a makeover for the multi-stage envelope generators (MSEGs). In the effects, the compressor got a new mode that is optimised for punchy sounds.
Dune 3.5 also introduces a new patch browser with sound banks and categories. There is also a new genetics function that allows you to create new patches from existing ones. A nice and solid update for the Dune 3 Synthesizer plugin.
