Nikolozi has released Mela 6.0, a major feature update for its modular virtual analog Synthesizer AUv3 plugin for macOS and iOS.
Mela is a virtual analog Synthesizer app/AUv3 plugin with a wireless modular engine. The developer, Nikolozi Meladze, has been massively updating the app throughout 2024, not only for users of all collections but also for all others.
Just before the year’s close, Nikolozi pushed a major 6.0 update for Mela with numerous new features.
Nikolozi Mela 6.0
Mela 6.0 introduces many new features to the modular engine. A big change comes in the lane concept of the engine. All lane types (audio, MIID, instrument) are now unified into a single universal lane with merged capabilities.
Nikolozi says it offers a preset migratory that automatically converts your presets to use universal less. So-called signal router modules replace existing lane audio and MIDI I/O settings, including Audio In, Audio Out, MIDI In, MIDI Out, MIDI-to-Poly, and Poly-to-Audio.
These new modules take over all audio and MIDI duties. For example, the new MIDI-to-poly module converts MIDI messages into a poly signal. You can also set the polyphony for the presets and more.
With the new Poly-to-Audio module, you can collapse a poly signal into an audio signal by summing voices while retaining the last note-on Pitch signal. Modules that don’t support Poly signals automatically perform this collapse.
Module Updates
Nikolozi Mela 6 also has major updates for existing modules:
- amp envelope: Now mirrors the behaviour of the Envelope Generator. When no Poly signal is present, it uses MIDI signals to trigger attack and release states, shaping the Audio signal accordingly.
- panic module: Removed, as the functionality is now integrated into the MIDI In and MIDI Out modules.
- voice activity: Now displays Audio signal levels and MIDI signal’s last note and velocity when no Poly signal is present. Plus, it now automatically resizes based on the preset polyphony.
- modulators: The “Targets” view no longer scrolls to the bottom on appearance.
Further, it comes with other improvements and fixes.
First Impression
I’m glad that Nikolozi continues to update the Mela like this.
Nikolozi Mela 6.0 is available now as a free update for existing users. The app is a free download from the AppStore. More features can be added via the various “Collections” in-app purchases. It runs as a standalone app and as an AUv3 plugin on macOS (Apple Silicon), and iOS (iPhone/iPad).
