Erica Synths Black Dual ASR EG is a dual voltage-controlled envelope generator, LFO generator, or drone oscillator in one sleek module.
Unlike in software modular synthesizers (VCV Rack…), the rack space in Eurorack systems is limited. To make the most of the available rack space, many musicians use modules that offers multiple functions, so-called multi-functional modules. For example, the almost legendary Make Noise Maths or Disting Mk4 from Expert Sleepers are among the most popular here. Both are very different but offer a lot of functionality in one module.

The Black Dual ASR EG is a versatile dual voltage-controlled analog envelope generator (AD/ASR). It has dedicated controls for attack and decay that offer manual control or over CV. It also hosts a manual gate button. The centrally located loop/free running switch has two functions. In the loop setting, you turn on the looping functionality. With the shortest attack and decay settings, both envelopes can act as voltage-controlled drone oscillators with adjustable waveforms. You have to do without 1v / octave tracking, but it is not super important with a drone generator.
In free-running, both envelopes act as low-frequency oscillators with manual and voltage-controlled shapes and rates. On the backside, you also have a jumper for the envelope/LFO time configuration. On the connection side, it comes with classic ins/outs, CV control over the main parameters as well as two bonus features. It includes end-of-cycle outputs as well as bi-polar LFO outputs.
At first look a very exciting module. Mainly because it fuses not only two loopable envelopes in a very compact module (10HP) but also LFOs and drone oscillators. The module has a bit of Make Noise Maths spirit, which is also more than just an envelope generator.
