Oxi Instruments has published Coral 1.1.3, a new free alternative firmware that introduces a new 3-VCO Moog-style synth engine.
With its numerous synth engines, ranging from classic synths and samples to drum engines, the Coral offers the sound functions of a complete groove box in a 14HP module. Very impressive. Oxi kicks off 2024 with a gift to all Coral users. Firmware 1.1.3 is out now and introduces a new synth engine.
Oxi Instruments Coral 1.1.3
With firmware 1.1.3, the Oxi developers have published another alternative firmware. The 10+ engines weren’t enough; now there’s another new synth engine you can explore in your Coral module.
It introduces a new Moog-style virtual analog engine with three variable saw oscillators per voice. The timbre controls allow you to change the waveforms from triangle to saw, square, and PWM waveforms.
You can detune oscillators 2 and 3 separately, creating the classic fat Moog-style basses and leads. According to Oxi, the detuning controls are more finely calibrated to quickly align to musical intervals (+7, +12 semitones…). This also applies to the complete engine and the FM part.
Not sure but there is also a ladder filter that boosts the “Moog” character of this new engine. The engine sounds very juicy and rich in the first demo.
Besides this, the new firmware resolves a problem related to the ‘Knobs-catching up’ feature that occurred when switching between different parts.
First Impression
Excellent 2024 gift. A nice new engine for the Coral. It is very classic but great for the traditional bread and butter basses and leads.
The new Oxi Instruments Coral 1.1.3 is available now as a free download. The module is out now for $499/478€.
