ManasWorld WarpCore is a new free, open-source multi-band spectrum inversion plugin for macOS, Linux, and Windows inspired by the Zynaptiq Wormhole plugin.

Let’s stick with the topic of free plugins. This one, however, is a bit more experimental. Zynaptiq (formerly Prosoniq) is known for its innovative algorithms that go far deeper than classic effects.

One of these is the Wormhole plugin, which lets you create exciting spectral manipulations. ManasWolrd, an indie developer, has released WarpCore, a free, open-source plugin that recreates a particular algorithm from the Wormhole plugin.

WarpCore is a new free FX processor plugin for macOS, Linux, and Windows. According to ManasWolrd, his project attempts to recreate the effect style of the Zynaptiq Wormhole or of the previous Prosoniq PiWarp.

The plugin is a multi-band spectrum inversion tool inspired by the local time-domain spectral inversion effect in Wormhole. If you’re thinking, “WTF?” right now, I understand, since it’s not exactly a standard effect you’d find in every DAW’s plugin arsenal.

It’s basically a kind of weird ring modulator, but it does crazy stuff. It wraps the frequency, distorting the sound content into negative harmony. Wormhole is like a ring mod, a pitch shifter, and a reverb melted into one hybrid FX.

WarpCore tries to be a free alternative to this. It features six distinct parameters, including warp, frequency high, scale, poles, pitch, and dry/wet. The plugin allows you to configure the filter pole count with filter cutoff frequency scaling.

Then, it has a built-in band-splitting crossover function with low and high splits. The processor’s bandwidth is also fully adjustable. According to the designer, it must follow a monotonic, increasing function, which can also be set.

There is also a formant shifter with two modes: pitch and format, giving you different results. Parameter smoothing is also onboard.

The results you can achieve with this free plugin are quite wild. If you’re into unusual robot-like manglings, this is the right place for you.

First Impression

It’s great that there’s now a free alternative to Zynaptiq Wormhole. I’m sure the original plugin is still high-quality and offers more features, but this can be a nice entry point into this shaping world. It’s perfect for turning any classic sound on its head.

This plugin is especially tempting for sound designers who want unique sounds.

ManasWolrd WarpCore is available as a free download. It runs as a VST3, AU, and LV2 plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel), Linux, and Windows.
