Soniccouture Polarity Modular is the latest release in their Polarity series of instruments, featuring sounds from Ian Boddy.

In August, the renowned sample library manufacturer Soniccouture introduced the new Polaris series. The highlight is a powerful dual-engine granular engine supported by classic subtractive synthesis features.

The latest Soniccouture Polarity release, titled Modular, was created in collaboration with British sound designer Ian Boddy.

Polarity Modular is a new dual-layer granular instrument for Kontakt Player. Soniccouture ships Polarity Modular with 250 custom waveforms crafted by UK synthesis and DIN label owner Ian Boddy.

Many legendary modular synthesizers, including the Roland System 100M, Serge Modular, and Buchla Sound Easel, among others, were used to create the sound library.

Like the previous library, the new Polarity Modular features the same granular engine, with four interface pages: Macros, Grains, Synth, and Effects.

On the main page, Polarity Tension features four macro controls, which shape and twist the sound with unpretentious results. Additionally, you can drag and drop user samples into the samples, making the engine highly flexible.

Then the grains tap offers all the controls you expect from a granular engine, but times two, because each layer has its own set of parameters: position, scan, jitter, and more. This section also gives you the option to change the samples, apply a grain LFO, and more.

Furthermore, you have more traditional synth controls, including a filter with a dedicated ADSR envelope, an amp ADSR envelope, an LFO, and more.

There is also a multi-FX processor with Kontakt-based effects, and an IR Reverb with Soniccouture’s custom impulse library. Not to forget is that the library is also fully NKS2 compatible.

According to Soniccouture, Polarity Modular aims to redefine the sound of analog synthesis.

First Impression

At first glance, it’s an exciting continuation of the Polarity series. It’s great to see Ian Boddy on board. That brings back memories, as one of the first Kontakt libraries I bought was from him.

Soniccouture Polarity Modular is now available for an introductory price of 109€ instead of 149€. Users of any other Poarlity series product can crossgrade for 79€. These deals are valid until December 1, 2025, including the Black Friday deals.
