Tiptop Audio Resonator brings the beloved Moog Polymoog resonators from 1975 with complete CV control into a Eurorack module.
Resonators are a very special tool in sound design. By inserting a resonator into the signal path, you can enrich any sound with harmonics, making it more metallic. Some vintage synths had them on board.
The monster Korg PS-3300, for example, has resonators in the center of the signal path. Also, the Moog Polymoog from 1975 had a resonator, but at the end of the signal path. The latter are now revived in a new Tiptop Audio Resonator module.

The resonator in the Polymoog contributes significantly to the distinct sound of this legendary polyphonic Synthesizer. This special ingredient is now available in an affordable module.
The Tiptop Audio Resonator (16HP) is a 100% analog Eurorack module that recreates the Polymoog’s resonator section. It’s not just a recreation; it’s also a further development with added features.
According to the developers, it’s strictly analog, with no additional LED lights or digital circuitry that contaminate the grounding with hiss, ensuring a pure, clean analog sound.
It consists of three resonators, each with control over the gain, emphasis, and frequency. For each resonator, you can choose between highpass, bandpass, and lowpass characteristics.
A highlight of the ability to control every parameter with CV, integrating it perfectly in modular setups. Additionally, it has an emphasis CV with a built-in limiter and a bypass switch.
While the original was an end-of-chain effect, the module version opens it up for use in any configuration. For example, you can use it after the oscillator or sampler to spice them up or again as an end-of-chain effect.
First Impression
As a resonator fan, I’m happy to see that Tiptop Audio has now released them as a Eurorack module. I’ve linked a demo with some initial sound impressions. The module sounds beautiful and full of character.
