Caelum Audio created with Toyphonic Micraliser for International Joke Day 2025, probably the worst mic modeling plugin ever: free download

When developing a plugin based on a model, the developer wants to provide the customer with the best possible emulation. You can also turn the tables, as Caelum Audio does for International Joke Day 2025.

Last year, they released King Key, a hyper-realistic keyboard sound rompler. This year, they have another funny idea. For International Joke Day 2025, Caelum Audio has released the Toyphonic Micraliser, available as a free download for a limited time.

Toyphonic Micraliser is a new ultra-realistic, precision-tuned, Apex Mic modeling. Okay, it would be nice, but it is the opposite. It’s probably the worst mic modeling plugin ever.

Caelum Audio promises that the Toyphonic Micraliser is built for the future-fails in the present. Even if your singing sounds like a dying cat, the plugin finally kills the cat. This can’t be that bad, can it?

Enough fun. Is the plugin useless, then, and why should you use it? You certainly can’t use it to take your voice to the next level, but it’s undoubtedly a fun sound design tool.

Toyphinic Micraliser is based on “painstakingly captured, isolated mic & speaker impulse responses” that are shapeable with various parameters.

You can curve, sculpt, and inappropriately touch the behavioral qualities of the Impulse Response via the attack and decay controls, mixing ratios, and more. And don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with configuring the plugin. The results are bad and funny anyway.

To top off the hyper-realistic microphone plugin, you can animate these parameters with the built-in modulation engine. It hosts an LFO, a sequencer, and an envelope follower to keep things moving. These are regular ones and do not seem to have escaped from a clown institution.

Caelum Audio Toyphonic Micraliser ships with 15 ” ethically, locally sourced, organic” to play around. Additionally, it features a randomizer that provides an infinite number of presets.

First Impression

It’s always lovely to see plugin developers not taking themselves too seriously. The Caelum Audio developers are always at the forefront of this, especially on International Joke Day. This release is as enjoyable as the others from the last few years.

If you’ve always wanted to use a plugin that has the characteristics of a children’s microphone, or even worse, this is the perfect one.

Caelum Audio Toyphonic Micraliser is available now as a free download until July 21st, 2025. The regular price is £0,99, $1,19, and 1,19€. It runs as a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS and Windows. There is also an iOS version with AUv3 plugin support.
