Import your Pure Data patches into VCV Rack with this module

The free 6-in/6-out module from Porres lets you import your Pure Data patches into VCV Rack, a software modular synthesizer.

There are many software modular synthesizers available. Andrew Belt’s VCV Rack, a modular Synthesizer heavily inspired by the Eurorack world, is highly popular these days.

Pure Data, on the other hand, is a modular tool more at home in academic/experimental settings and has a large user base. And now, you can work with both tools even deeper thanks to a new Pd integration into VCV Rack.

Pure Data VCV Rack

The new free, open-source module release by Porres lets you import Pd patches into VCV Rack. It’s based on the old, abandoned Prototype project. It used to run Pure Data patches via lbpd.

It features six inputs, six outputs, six knobs, six lights (RGB LEDs), and six switches with RGB LEDs. However, there are no CV options. Therefore, you cannot map parameters to CV, which is a pity.

Good, you don’t need Pure Data installed on your systems. So, you can download patches from the net and import them directly into VCV Rack, adding new functionality. With Pure Data installed, you can edit your patches.

Alexandre Torres Porres said on Patreon:

Anyway, after years abandoned, I decided to jump in and I stripped things down, did a simple overhaul and ported it to VCV2 and this dream finally came true! I will now work on a better redesign for it…

I’m still getting the hang of it as until today I had never developed for VCV… but I woke up inspired and decided to do this, and I did it 😉

First Impression

Software modularity within software modularity – if that isn’t an Inception moment! More possibilities are always welcome, especially when they’re free. Thank you for continuing the project.

The new Pure Data module for VCV Rack is available now as a free download.
