ValhallaDSP has released ValhallaDelay 3.0, a free update for its no-brainer $50 delay plugin with two new vintage-inspired analog-ish modes.

Black Friday is in full swing, and developers are battling over discount offers. Who has the best discounts and deals? At VahallaDSP, you get every plugin for $50 and don’t even need a coupon.

In addition, Sean Costello and his team released a free 4.0 update for its free delay/reverb plugin, ValhallaSupermassive, which is the best deal on the plugin planet. VahallaDSP has a second surprise today. VahallaDelay got a free 3.0 update with two lovely new modes.

ValhallaDelay 3.0

In ValhallaDelay 3.0, you can explore two all-new algorithms/modes. Both take you back to characterful vintage delay times.

Analog is a new BBD (bucket brigade) echo with ValhallaDSP magic. According to Sean Costello, it uses a commanding BBD model like the original ValhallaDelay BBD mode, but with some modifications.

It has two times the frequency bandwidth, half the noise, and a new saturation model that sounds closer to thicker BBD units. ValhallaDSP promises that it’s far brighter than a real BBD device but less bright than a digital delay.

So, regarding character, like a hybrid BBD with a perfect frequency balance for delay, choruses, and reverbs. “Dark enough to have character and cut away the obnoxious high frequencies, but bright enough to avoid the murk.”

The second new mode in ValhallaDelay 3.0 is called ChromaTape. It’s the sister algorithm of the original tape mode but with some twists. It has far less feedback noise and no tape splice artifacts. Thus, ChromaTape is a less accurate emulation of old-school tape delays.

ValhallaDSP, however, says that users requested this mode for the plugin. They like the sound of the original tape algorithm but not the artifacts it produces.  The new ChromaTape is the response to it.

First Impression

I’m happy to repeat myself in this case. These are two excellent modes for the Valhalla delay plugin. The new 3.0 update makes the whole package even more of a no-brainer.

ValhallaDelay 3.0 is available now as a free download for existing customers. The plugin costs $50, and the price is resistant to any black, cyber, or Christmas rush. It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
