Roland has released the Juno-106-ACB Synthesizer as a free update for existing Fantom users with an installed EX upgrade.

A year ago, Roland released the EX upgrade for the Fantoms. A paid upgrade that gives the Fantom synthesizer a complete engine overhaul. For example, it includes the new generation of ACB technology that was previously used in the System-1 and System-8.

The Jupiter 8 ACB was included at the start. Later, they added the SH-101 and JX-3P ACB to the list. Today, without much announcement, the next ACB plugin is available. Roland Fantom EX users can now download the Juno-106 at no cost.

The Juno-106-ACB is a new emulation of the legendary Roland Juno-106 from 1984. With the new ACB expansion, you now have the sonic behavior of this analog icon within your FANTOM EX hardware workflow.

Like the original, it features a single multi-wave oscillator (pulse, saw, square, and noise), a 24dB/oct resonant lowpass filter, a non-resonant highpass filter, an ADSR envelope, and a triangle LFO with delay and rate.

It also benefits from the latest ACB advancements and offers circuit mod and condition functions for dialing in varying degrees of vintage character.

It’s nice to see that Roland is expanding the EX package even further, and users get this as a free bonus.

The new Roland Fantom Juno-106-ACB is now a free download from Roland Cloud for existing Fantom EX hardware users or Fantom with EX upgrade installed.

  1. We are reaching a point, where every Roland synth is any Roland synth, ever made. Makes sense for a workstation, like the Fantom, but their lineup seems a bit muddled. I’d just go the 707/101 route with the Zenology plugin for sound design tweaks and be done with it. The rest of their stuff seems like different flavors, than different snacks.
