Leak: A photo including a feature set of the possible Ableton Move has appeared on Reddit. Could it be a battery-powered groovebox?
New photos that look like official product photos have appeared on the Elektronauts forum. They found it on “The Inventory” website.
It also becomes clear that it is a small groovebox, not a MIDI controller where you can export tracks to Ableton Live. There is also a picture of the backside. You get a power on/off button in yellow, a headphone socket, an audio input, USB host port, and USB-C probably for data and power.
The feature set has also leaked:
- standalone instrument
- over 1500 built-in sounds and instrument presets
- 32 polyphonic aftertouch pads
- 16-step sequencer
- built-in microphone and speaker
- 9x high-resolution encoders
- touch-sensitive, clickable jog wheels
- 1.3″ white OLED display
- stereo line out and stereo line in
- built-in WiFi
- 64GB internal storage
- USB-C for connecting to a computer
- USB-A for MIDI devices
- weight: 0.97kg
- transfer sets from Move to Note and continue working in Live or Push
- Ableton Link support
Article From October 6, 2024
Last week, Ableton released images of posters named Ableton Move on them, teasing something for October 8, 2024. In addition, another teaser with symbols reminiscent of Elektron devices was released just before the start of the weekend.
During the European night, there was a leak on Reddit with photos and features of the possible Ableton Move hardware.
Leak Ableton Move
According to the document, a hardware survey was conducted among users in 2022. The result was this possible product. However, it is impossible to say whether it is the real device that we will see on Tuesday.
What we see is a compact hardware with pads, knobs and buttons. According to the document, it’s a hardware device with standalone operation with a built-in processor and battery that can power the unit up to 3 hours.
Then, the leak source says the possible Ableton Move hardware has four tracks, which you can also see on the hardware with eight playable velocity-sensitive pads each. Underneath are 16 buttons pointing to a 16-step sequencer for each track.
On the top, you have eight knobs, probably for sound tweaking, and two other knobs for menu divings.
The document also says the unit offers seamless integration in Ableton Live, as well as built-in WiFi and Ableton Link support. Besides this, it will have a sampling option (recording) via a line input and a built-in microphone. Plus, it has a speaker.
Moreover, it says the unit is lightweight and has a slim design for mobile use with 30 x 15 x 2cm, 2 lbs.
Ableton Note In Hardware Or MIDI Controller
The concept of this possible new mobile hardware groovebox reminds me very much of the Ableton Note app for iOS. It also offers live sampling, macro controls for parameters, Ableton Live integration, etc.
So, Ableton Move could be seen as the Note app’s hardware version. This would mean the engine would be a stripped-down version of Live, with synth and sampler engines, macro parameters, some effects, etc.
Putting this into hardware would be a logical next step and would be attractive for all those who don’t want to use an iPhone or iPad to make music on the go. A big benefit of the Ableton Note app is that you can export your jams right into Ableton Live.
Another option would be a battery-powered MIDI controller with a built-in audio interface for Ableton Note.
Well, enough speculation. We will see Ableton Move on Tuesday, October 8, if the leak is right or not. For me, the leak is already pointing in the right direction, but who knows?
Source: Reddit
I can see it as part of an ecosystem of Blocks by Roli that provide MPE input as keys, faders, fx pads, drum pads. The buttons seems very ROLIesque and they are also announcing on Oct 8th.
I could also see a beefed up version of Ableton Note as a companion app for more advanced sound, sample, fx, and sequence/song editing, similar to what the YAMAHA SeqTrak does.
I saw this last night on Reddit, please stop giving it gas, it’s not real. As you know, if you if saw the Reddit post, it’s from a survey that Ableton put out years ago about what product people would like to see next.
The specs are all fake, the image likely a prototype and zero indication that it’s the Move. Please stop sullying this site with garbage gossip, wait for the good gossip.
How do you know it’s not real? To me the hardware looks very close how a standalone stripped-down Ableton groove whould look like. You know product development is not made in one year, it takes 2,3 or even more. 2022 is a date that could fit well as it could be the product development phase. As a reminder Maschine+ was in the drawer since 2016/2017. but release years after.

We will see on October 8 how it will look like. Fake or not is not confirmed so. What I publish on my website is my decision, Cheers
It sounds like he has one already and knows it’s real , also his comment is probably based on knowing that it won’t cost $100 and it doesn’t have mpe after touch or a manic button that composes the song for him
let’s see what it will be on Tuesday
Sorry too many typos &autocorrects ,but I think manic button could be a thing
That Reddit thread is a beauty though – no-one there knows what it is or what it does or if that image is a fake…
BUT they’ve decided the screen is definitely too small!
Chef’s kiss. Don’t ever change, gear dorks.
you were saying ?
Well that comment aged well lol…
Well this comment was wrong.
What makes me doubt the legitimacy of this leak is that the dimensions are given in metric and the weight is imperial. The copy is generally sloppy, to be honest, and not very ‘Ableton’.
I’m certain that the Ableton Move WILL be a super-mobile groovebox, because it makes sense on so many levels, but I’m not convinced that this is it. I’m happy to be proven wrong this week, though!
or we are all wrong and it’s a clever MIDI controller for the Ableton Note app, we will see 🙂
if that is Ableton Move, I am underwhelmed. Push is the best controller for Ableton. V3 has 2 versions, including a standalone. If that is Ableton Move, then I can’t see who it is being marketed towards. The smaller alternative to Push is the Launchpads, which have been out for years.
I love my Push 2, but it is such a pain to transport for casual every day on the go use. It’s huge and cumbersome and heavy. A smaller and more mobile version would be cool and would be an insta buy from me.
hopefully this is fake, looks terrible.
The real Ableton Move obviously is a Dance Dance Revolution-style roll-out mat controller that lets you make music with your feet.
What the world needs most is more Grooveboxes, seriously! Iam addicted to groove boxes 😎
New image leak on Elektronauts suggests this is almost certainly not fake. I’m about 99.9% convinced that this is what Move looks like.
Looks like 50% of a Push 3 lol… Push Half 🙂
I already have a Push 3 and gotta admit this doesnt look too enticing as is GAS shortness of breath. Still Im intrigued to how this integrates to what could be the start of an ABleton ecosystem. I was more expecting a smaller 16 pad array kinda like a smaller Maschine. Also no word on importing samples? If this is it then this couldnt be more than 400 bucks since this is basically a Circuit in a different formfactor. I’ll just keep on jamming on the “Move” with Ableton Note on ipad mini.
1/2 Ableton Push = Ableton Weak Shove
Novation Circuit vibes. Interesting.
Standalone instrument without audio outs? Just headphones output? Something is wrong with this leaked features…
why? It’s a mobile device so the headphone socket is more important and if the headphone socket has enough juice it also works as a regular audio output. I also uses the headphone output of the MicroFreak because it’s stereo and it works fine.

Damn I owe some people on this site an apology.
Especially since I just made the purchase!
There is a new video today on Ableton Youtube channel about all features of new Ableton Move Groovebox.
Watch Soniclab! 😉
