2hp Swarm & Lo-Fi, new hyper oscillator and audio degradation FX modules

2hp Swarm & Lo-Fi are two new 2HP modules: a new hyper oscillator with up to 88 voices and an audio degradation FX processor.

The size of a module is measured in HP (horizontal pitch). The fewer HPs, the less HP it takes up in the case. The US-based company 2hp specializes in 2hp modules and celebrated great success a few years ago. In the meantime, things have been quiet around the company. The last module was released in 2022.

After a two-year break, Stephen Hensley from 2hp is back with two new modules, and of course, there are two “horizontal pitch” big.

Swarm is a new hyper-oscillator or swarm generator that bundles a lot of oscillators in a module. The module can stack up to 88 saws or 55 plus waves in a sound, allowing you to create big super-saw sounds, tonal noise, and more.

The module is as simple as usual. There are three knobs. Tweak the voices pot to control the number of available oscillators (up to 88) and dial in the desired pitch variance across the voices with detune. This parameter takes your oscillator sound in the rich, thickening, swarming spheres.

Then, you have a frequency knob that acts as macro pitch control, which also tracks 1v/oct through its CV input. The 2hp Swarm has a waveform toggle for switching easily between sawtooth and pulse waveforms.

Besides the Swarm, 2hp also unveiled the Lo-Fi, an audio degradation effects module for Eurorack. According to 2hp, it emulates the nostalgic sounds of old audio equipment.

Lo-Fi hosts two degradation modes. In the analog mode, you get the warm audio degradation from devices like tape echos, etc. You can work with wow and flutter for dynamic pitch fluctuations, add hiss and crackles, and warm up your sounds with tape compression and saturation.

The digital mode gives you the harsh digital side of audio degradation with bit-crusher, sample-rate reduction, and distortion. Using this mode, your sounds end up in a digital crunchy, noisy sound whirlpool.

Plus, it has a High-fidelity pass-through (48kHz – 32-bit internal), and you have CV control over every function.

I am happy to see that 2hp is back with two interesting modules.

2hp Swarm & Lo-Fi modules are available now for $149 each.
