DecadeBridge SpeculumLITE is a free dual stereo delay plugin with independent filtering for each channel and a crazy amount of LFOs.
The name DecadeBridge will undoubtedly sound familiar to some of you. It is an independent developer from the UK who has released some exciting drone synths, such as Albers, Cadence, or Diamonds in the Dust. What few people know is that he also has a plugin history.
On his website, there are still some 32-bit only relics. With SpeculumLITE he has just published an all-new free delay plugin with an extensive feature set.
DecadeBridge SpeculumLITE
SpeculumLITE is a new free creative dual delay + filtering plugin. Its core consists of two independent stereo delay lines (A/B) offering the same feature set. Each delay has three modes. In delay mode, the plugin creates the classic repeat effects you expect from a classic delay with independent control over the left and right sides.
The comb lets the engine run faster to achieve comb filter effects, while the R>L link mode links both L/R channels. Additionally, you can find two sine wave LFOs for modulating the time and feedback parameters in each delay block.
Then, each delay block (A/B) of DecadeBridge SpeculumLITE has its own filter block, in which the signal first passes through a lowpass and then a highpass filter. That’s a good amount of shaping options.
Both have classic controls (cutoff/resonance) and can self-oscillate at higher resonance settings—great for wild, noisy timbres. Like the delays, each filter block also hosts two sine-wave LFOs with rate and depth knobs, controlling the frequency of the lowpass and highpass filters.
SpeculumLITE’s mixer section is also pretty extensive. Each signal part (A/B) has its own mixer that can receive and send signals to different parts of the effect. These are also supercharged with more sine-wave LFOs. There is also a dry signal section with an output parameter and another LFO.
The plugin covers a wide range of possible sounds. From classic stereo delays and modulated delays to experimental sounds like glitching and textures. To get started, the developer ships the plugin with various factory presets.
First Impression
In recent years, DecadeBridge has enriched us with some lovely, experimental hardware synths. Now, he is continuing this in software.
SpeculumLITE is not another ordinary free delay. Its flexible routing, built-in filters, and many LFOs make it a unique processor. A downer: The plugin is not compatible with MacOS Apple Silicon but only with Intel. I hope that this will be added later.
DecadeBridge SpeculumLITE is now available for free download. It runs as an AU plugin on macOS Intel (no Apple Silicon support) and as a VST3 plugin on Windows.
