Inear Display Gorgon v2 is the second generation of its brutal, dirty distortion effect plugin with comb filtering, FM ring modulation, and more.
There are many plugins on the market. Many focus on classic sounds, and only a few take an experimental route. The plugins from Thomas Hennebert, aka Inear Display, are different. They are wild, experimental, and unique.
One of the first ID plugins was Gorgon, a dirty distortion. Unfortunately, it was discontinued a few years ago. Today, it returns as Gorgon v2 with an updated feature set, new GUI, and native support for Apple Silicon. The best news: it’s a free upgrade for paid v1 users.
Inear Display Gorgon v2
Gorgon v2 is the second generation of Thomas’ brutal dirty distortion plugin. The core consists again of an aggressive-flavored distortion with other shaping ingredients.
It features a ring modulator with frequency modulation, comb filtering, and a sample rate reducer for additional crunch. Then, you can work with a morphable lowpass/highpass filter in the signal path and shape it further with a built-in EQ. The latter has low, mid, and high band settings.
Movement into the distortions is achieved via Gorgon v2’s envelope follower, which can modulate almost every plugin parameter. An optional mono mode, an output mixer, and amp control are also available.
Unlike Gorgon v1, version 2 has a redesigned, resizable GUI and an improved preset browser with cross-platform compatibility. Lastly, the plugin has a handy parameter randomizer for instant new inspiring results.
According to Inear Display, Gorgon creates intense, circuit-bending-esque sounds and invites users to audio destructions and experimentations.
First Impression
Gorgon is probably one of the wildest, most brutal distortion plugins. Nice to see it back in an updated version. The update is solid. But I would have liked to see more features that took Gorgon even further. Positively, it’s a free upgrade.
Inear Display Gorgon 2 is available now for 39€ + VAT. It runs as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows. Existing paid Gorgon 1 users can request a free upgrade to Gorgon 2.
