Tsoniq Viper and DS80 are new vintage-inspired multi-engine oscillators for Korg Logue synthesizers (minilogue XD, NTS-1, and prologue 8/16).
The Korg Logue synthesizers have an innovative multi-engine. This is a digital engine where you can replace the oscillators and the FX section with other algorithms. This way, you can constantly give the logue synths a new character. A synth with many interchangeable sound facets.
The latest third-party oscillators come from Tsoniq. One is a free download.
Tsoniq Viper
Viper bundles four new user oscillators based on vintage synthesizers. Each user program features alias-free dual oscillators with waveforms and wavetables from classic hybrid synths in 16-bit sample resolution. Including:
- 16 waveforms from the Korg DW-8000 (viper-dw)
- 31 waveforms from the Kawai K3 (viper-k3)
- 32 waveforms from the Ensoniq ESQ-1 (viper-esq)
- 32 wavetables from the PPG Wave (viper-ppg)
According to Tsoniq, they use additive synthesis for waveform recreation and simulated multi-sampling, allowing tonal shifts at different key ranges. There is also slew-rate limiting for glitch-free modulation.
All four Viper oscillators feature a white noise generator a single-stage pitch envelope fo auto-bend effects. The Viper-ppg wavetable oscillators can also be modulated using the filter envelope and shape LFO.
Tsoniq DS80-VCDO
DS80 is a new free Logue user oscillator that emulates the digital waveforms from the vintage Digisound DS-80-21 VCDO rack module.
It features five banks of alias-free waveforms that reproduce the original hardware waveforms using additive synthesis. Each bank hosts a wavetable with eight waveforms each.
In bank 4, you get individual waves (triangle, square, sawtooth, double-sawtooth, pulse, random1, square+sawtooth, and random2) and in bank 5 32 waveforms sequentially.
The DS80 multi-engine oscillators reproduce the variable sample-rate waveform artifacts. There is also a white noise generator. You can select waveforms individually or morph smoothly like a wavetable. They also include a bandwidth limiter and an analog-style tuning drift.
First Impression
Beautiful new oscillators for the Korg logue series. If you’re looking for colder, digital sounds, these could be exciting for your Logue synth.
Tsoniq Viper is available now for $20. DS80-VCDO is a free download. It is compatible with the minilogue XD, NTS-1, and prologue 8/16 synthesizers.
