Denise Audio restarts its activity with Baby Audio as new owners, giving away three effects plugins as a free download.

It’s a new beginning, or should I say new power for a plugin company. As you have probably read in my other article, Denise Audio was sold to Baby Audio. The latter continues the company with the entire plugin portfolio.

Baby has already done a good deed. They have published free updates for the Denise Audio plugins, so they also run now on modern computers. The second follows at the same time. To celebrate this “restart”, Denise Audio re-releases three effects plugins as free downloads.

To get the three free plugins, you have to subscribe to their newsletter. Well, you can unsubscribe at any time.

My Crush

My Crush is a free bit-crusher plugin. More precisely, it’s a stripped-down version of its Bite Harder plugin but shares the same brutal algorithm. The plugin has good features, making it a versatile effect.

It hosts classic reduce and resample controls, allowing you to destroy and degrade your audio signals precisely. The built-in stutter effect creates a classic stutter effect and has a handy loop functionality.

You also get six different preset curves to change the tone and character of the bit-crusher. Then, it includes built-in filters (HP/LPF) with pre- and post-filtering, giving you full control over the frequencies.

Plus, it has a dry/wet mix control that lets you blend the desired effect to taste.

Bad Tape

The second free plugin is called Bad Tape. This does exactly what the name says. It’s an effects processor that focuses on lovely, extreme tape artifacts.

This is more of an experimental plugin as it emulates tape in bad, even super bad, conditions. Many tape plugins offer the other way. Also, Bad Tape includes a wide range of parameters.

Bad Tape

With WOW and SHAKE, you can detune your signals in a slower or quicker pseudo-random manner while Squel adds high-pitched tape reel squeal to signals. The speed dial controls the speed of all three effects. HISS adds a tape hiss like white noise to the sound.

There is also a detune (on/off) switch that allows you to create tape-stop effects in real time. It also has a color knob that applies a warm or bright character to the effect, and saturation adds volume and warmth to the final output.

Denise Audio Slappy

Slappy

The third and last free plugin from Denise Audio is Slappy. Great name hehe. It’s a straightforward saturated slapback delay plugin for macOS and Windows.

According to DA, it shares the same Bad Tape’s hysteresis saturation smooth algorithm. It creates a warm and analog-style sound modeled from vintage tape machines. Further, it includes highpass and lowpass filtering for fine-tuning the delay timbres.

Slappy is not a huge effect plugin but perfect for anyone looking for an easy and quick-to-use character delay.

Denise Audio My Crush, Bad Tape, and Slappy are now available for free download. You must sign up for their newsletter (you can always unsubscribe) to get the download links. They run as a 32- and 64-bit plugin on macOS (Intel + native Apple Silicon) and Windows 7 +.
