Ujam UFX Delay and Filter are two new additions to its UFX series, allowing users to create advanced effects in just a few steps.

You always need effects in music production. If you only want one effect, you resort to a simple effect. If you want the maximum, you take the multi-FX direction with dozens of different effect types and algorithms.

With its UFX series, the German company Ujam takes a different approach. They give the user a core effect that can be transformed into something more complex in just a few steps. The magic ingredient is called Finisher.

In response to customer requests, Ujam is expanding its range to include two new plugins with UFX Delay and Filter.

Ujam UFX Delay and Filter

UFX Delay and UFX Filter are the second and third plugins in the series after the recently released UFX Reverb 2. Both continue the concept. In this case, the core effect is delay or filter and the option to expand them with the Finisher world.

Ujam UFX Delay

Let’s start with the UFX Delay, a new creative delay plugin for macOS and Windows. It features 20 distinct delay modes: clean, doubling, grain, tape, diffusion, dirty, Ricochet filter, and more, covering a wide range.

These modes are fully tweakable with various controls: time, spread, feedback, modulation, damping, and input mix. Yes, there is also built-in modulation. However, it is a shame you can’t customize the modulation to the last detail.

A clever addition is the built-in ducking feature, which prevents your delay from clashing with your original sound. The delay signal and the input signal can then be sent to the right section of the plugin—the unique part of the UFX series.

In this gray section, you can filter your sounds with various classic “synth” filters and other unique character filters like tilt, bit crusher, and more. Just below is the Finisher, which is a one-knob multi-FX processor.

More precisely, the knob is a macro knob that controls several parameters of a multi-FX chain and mixes them into the delay. It gives you various effects, from a simple chorus to a cloud of grains and rhythmification.

There is also an intelligent randomizer that provides instant surprises at the press of a button. Plus, you have an adjustable small/big control to set the impact. Ujam UFX Delay ships with 100 presets showcasing classic and experimental sonic capabilities.

Ujam UFX Filter

It has the same concept and architecture as the Ujam UFX Delay, just a different effect type in the UFX Filter. It features 20 distinct filter modes, including classic LP/BP/HP, notch, and more unusual types like comb, multiple peaks, and ‘talking synth’ filters.

You can tweak the filter engine with classic cutoff, resonance, and slope controls. Unlike in the UFX Delay, Ujam has implemented an adjustable modulation engine in the Filter plugin. You have a multi-wave syncable LFO with rate and depth controls that can be routed to filter parameters.

Additionally, you can work with the built-in envelope follower to control the filter based on the input level, which is excellent for automatic filter effects.

Also onboard are the shaper and finisher sections, through which you can route your filtered and input sounds. The shaper gives you additional colorful filters, while the Finisher comes pre-loaded with all kinds of one-knob multi-FX chains.

Ujam also ships UFX Filter with factory presets (150+) that showcase the power of this new filter plugin.

First Impression

It’s great that the Ujam UFX series has been expanded to include a delay and filter. I enjoy the concept of the UFX plugins: they are creative and inspiring but don’t overwhelm the user with a trillion parameters and options.

Ujam UFX Delay and Filter are available now for $29/29€ each or in a bundle for $49/49€. Crossgrades start at $19/19€. They run as VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugins on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
