Plugin Boutique takes over Soundspot’s synth and effects plugins and releases Core Collection with new GUIs, and more.

At the end of June, I reported on the possible out-of-business scenario of the developer SoundSpot. In many forums, you could read that the company could no longer be reached. However, Plugin Boutique continued to sell the plugins with massive discounts.

Now, there is movement on the topic. The plugins are back, not as SoundSpot but in updated form from Plugin Boutique.

Plugin Boutique Core Collection

The Core Collection bundles a Synthesizer and several effects plugins. 100% new, are these not. If you read this carefully, you will see that these are the SoundSpot plugins but renewed with Plugin Boutique names.

According to PB, they doesn’t offer any significant new features. However, they bring all-new modern GUIs, an improved preset browser with fresh sounds, and the latest OS compatibility. Further, they also guarantee future updates for the plugins.

So now it’s official. Goodbye SoundSpot, hello Plugin Boutique plugins. These were also renamed into more and less generic names. The bundle includes

  • WaveOSC (ex SoundSpot Union) hybrid Synthesizer with two VA and one wavetable oscillator, nine effects, and more
  • FilterMod – filter plugin with 20 different types and built-in modulation for wild filter animations
  • ShapeMod – volume modulation plugin with full flexibility to achieve modern volume-ducking effects in seconds
  • DriveMod – distortion plugin with six algorithms and built-in modulation
  • DriveLE – a stripped-down version of DriveMod with a single algorithm
  • ResDelay – multi-FX combining envelope filter and a stereo delay for sweeping and rhythmic patterns.
  • DualClip – a 16-band soft slipper and a single-band hard clipper in a plugin
  • PeakLimit – limiter with four different settings and transient modes
  • Exceed – utility plugin

First Impression

It’s a shame that the company Soundspot has ceased to exist under the name. It’s good that the plugins are updated, but it has a bad aftertaste that you now have to pay extra for them.

Plugin Boutique Core Collection is available now for an introductory price of 169,16€ (29% OFF), including individual plugin purchases. If you are an existing SoundSpot user, please check your email for your exclusive upgrade option. They starts at $10. Alternatively, contact support@pluginboutique.com for further assistance.

  1. Ha! So, that’s what happened! Had noticed the new collection and didn’t realize they were SoundSpot plugins.
Bought many of those through PB, during Black Friday sales. Haven’t used them much, to be honest. And I haven’t used any since I moved to Apple Silicon.
Still, I’ll check if I can upgrade at a decent price. Thanks a lot for the tip!

  2. You need to download and authorize these via Plugin boutique’s Beatport Access app. Unfortunately the app is geared towards “rent to own” and will hassle you to be online for authorisation. Having bought these “upgraded” versions outright, the app is constantly bugging me for authorisation and there’s no way currently to input a perpetual license or use these plugins offline. Have submitted a ticket, so hopefully they will fix it.
