Togu-Audio-Line has published TAL-Sampler 4.4.2, a free update turning the plugin into a multi-layer granular sampler.

A sampler is just as important in a DAW as a good Synthesizer. With a good interface and mature feature set, it can even replace many synthesizers. One can also say that every good sampler is a Synthesizer. Instead of oscillators, it uses samples but also goes through filters, effects and you shape the sound with envelopes, etc.

In many big productions, Kontakt by Native Instruments is used. If you want something simpler and more hands-on, I can only recommend the TAL-Sampler from Togu Audio Line. It offers a lot but is very lightweight in terms of CPU etc. The support is fantastic too. There are constantly new updates with newfeatures etc. Today the developer released a beta that makes the TAL-Sampler even more interesting: granular synthesis.

Thanks to emptyvessel, one of the sound designers of the factory library, who brought this news to my attention on Twitter. Please, checkout his work on his website. And many thanks for the info. What I would do without my news whispers?

TAL-Sampler 4.4.2 is in beta and has a great set of new features. A big highlight is the all-new granular synthesis, which turns TAL-Sampler into a multi-timbral granular sampler. Since the plugin consists of four layers, granular can now use four times. This promises very exciting new sounds.

The Granular engine has various parameters, including stretch, grain size, octave, direction, r position, r pitch, density, stereo, and grain envelope (window). Excellent is that you can have different stretch/grain settings per sample in a multi-sample mapping.

Then, you get a new 12dB notch filter in the layers filters and

  • NO FILTER option disables the filter for some resampler modes to keep high frequencies.
  • Minor fixes.

There is no video demo for the new granular mode yet. But I’m very happy to see that the TAL sampler can now also do granular synthesis. Thanks!

TAL-Sampler 4.4.2 with the granular feature is a free update for existing users. It is available for $60 + VAT and runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (Intel +  native Apple Silicon), Linux, and Windows.
